Defensive Shemes

If the game has passed anybody by its passed Norm Parker. People the blue print is out on how to beat Iowa. How many times did the defnse give up 3rd longs last year when they had the lead? Also if Iowa gets a lead of 10 or more pts they go into a shell. We should all be used to this by now a defense that blows leads and gives up 3rd and longs, and offense that conservative and dont believe in scoring more then 40 pts a game against anybody. Today we had receivers that were amost a ******* foot taller then ISU dbs and we didnt take advantage of that. Also Im not saying names but TE#39 cant catch lots of drops.

3rd and longs are a big concern, starting last year. It's a bad sign for a team to give up 3rd and 15's and 3rd and 20's. One stop and we win the game.

I think you can take the crappiest D-1 program in the country and run the same scheme that this year's national title team will run and find out you still are crappy.

Coaching does matter but in the end players-make-plays(or not). It takes players with skills, physicality and experience.

I am not saying the 'schemes' folks are wrong,,, I am just not a believer that schemes alone are the difference. I'll give you the schemes but I'll take the 'stud' players and see how many each of us win.

One of the top defenses in the nation but put a good spread team on the field or even not a so good spread team on the field and Iowa will have incredible trouble. A good team and they would shred Norm's defense. Norm wants and thinks college football is still in the 60s and every team runs two of three downs. Time for Norm to retire. But wait, if Iowa got an innovative young defensive coach, KF would just tie his hands anyway...so we might as well keep Norm.

Wow, one loss and we're wanting to fire coaches? Calm down, relax and start breathing, and walk away from the ledge

On years such as this, rebuilding on the defensive side of the ball our coaching staff needs to adjust to our strengths and weaknesses. We are not going to be able to get a good enough pass rush this season with our inexperienced line.
I hope to see adjustments to strengthen our defense but I have my serious doubts of that changing. I would also like to see Hyde back at corner and Bernstine play enforcer at safety like Bob Sanders. I don't think the best players are on the field. Hyde was an excellent tackler last year at corner and we need his stability over there. Bernstine has been practicing at safety for the last 2 years and is probably a better fit there.
This should be a learning experience for the team and I hope it will make us a better team long term.
