Too many uncontested looks. When a guy who scores 5 points all year hits 3 three's, there is an issue. Iowa could not give them much better looks unless they actually just sat down a let Minny run their offense.

The basketball experts on the board can correct me on this, but to me, when they switched to man to man, Minny stopped scoring, but the damage was done.

They won the game with their crazy 3s at the end of the first half. None of the shots had good form, but they went right in . . . over and over. And the damage had been done.

In the first half, yes, and they hit most of them. Second half, slightly less bad defense. We ended up losing.

As much as I like this team and think we can do some damage, we are not going to go anywhere if we don't start playing some defense. Tonight was terrible. Yes Minnesota made everything. But good teams make open shot. We continually get beat off the dribble and either give up a layup or open shot (usually a 3).
On ball defense was terrible tonight. The rotating on defense was awful tonight.
Sooner or later this team has got to realize that they need to start playing defense instead of playing fast to win games.

Seeing the value Basabe brings - toughness around the hoop at both ends, senior experience, depth options, etc.

The zone should be a great weapon for a team with Iowa's length. However when your guys hands are at their waist and youre out of position all the time, it wont work. Ive never seen so many guys with great length make themselves 6'2. Even of the front of the press whether its White or Uthoff, look at their hands. Theyre always down. Notice how many times Iowa is jumping at 3 point shooters in the zone. Why? Because theyre so far out of position that they cant close out under control. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME
