DC D-End Tyree Johnson Discusses New Offer from Iowa

Sure are going after DEs like crazy... I wonder how many of this last yrs class will end up changing to DT or LB cause right now they just have so many it seems like. Iowa don't like to rotate them often enough to make em all happy. Although I wish they would rotate them more often then they have. Seems like late in the year the 4qs of games our pass rush was sure lacking and fresher bodies might be the trick...

My take on it is that they want to rotate more across the DLine, they just don't have the the quality of depth that they would want to do it more.

I'm hoping so too. I've always thought that using a backup that's 100% and not hurt and tired could contribute more then a starter who's just plum wore out. Now do you rotate them every 3 series' or how do you do it I'm not sure the best way. But having your starters running on empty with capable players on the bench holding their helmets doesn't seem like the best..

You make a good point about the qty of DE's that have been signed and are being recruited. I like it as I think we're getting more athletic. Create high, high levels of competition and the ones to win the playing time should be excellent players.

If you compare and contrast 2014 to 2015 defense, you can see how much better our defense was with a "dominant" DE. Even within the 2015 season and post Ott's injury, you can see that our defense changed, even though, Ott's replacement did a very respectable job. He just wasn't dominant. You could also see Meier wear down a little bit, down the stretch.

If Iowa remains a defense that doesn't like to blitz as a primary strategy, then it is critical to get pressure from your DE's. And, to your point, an increase of quality players should allow for more rotating of players in and out.

The best quote in the history of recruiting-

“I’m thinking about committing in the next two or three weeks but I’m not sure. If not then, some time in the summer or during the season. And if it does not happen by then, it will most definitely be on signing day,â€￾ he said.

can't really be any clearer than that
