Dawson leaving the team

Actually, I see this as a positive story. The kid is following his heart. He is choosing to do what he wants to do and prepare himself for the future instead of sticking it out doing something he doesn't want to do that has little chance of positively impacting his future.

Seriously, you are only an undergrad once. If you are spending the vast majority of your time in an extra-curricular activity you don't enjoy, you are making a mistake.

From what I understood, Dawson was receiving money for his academics, thus if he played a down, he would lose that academic scholarship money. On a positive note, it is good to hear that he is graduating in December and able to move forward with his after school plans!

Seems like that story is about the whole program......."my heart just wasnt in it"

This has nothing to do with the "whole program". Allow me to help you...
From article:

"said on Monday night that he decided to leave football, not as a negative reflection on the program, but because he has other things he wants to focus on before graduating in December"

Just a kid who doesn't want to play football anymore. Not a big deal, and not a knock on the program. I wish him the best in whatever he decides to do with his future.

I wish him the best. Never took a snap as a Hawkeye and quite possibly wasn't likely to, which probably aided his decision.

Oh no a guy who has no stats is leaving the team better all get riled up.

You must be referring to yourself. I don't see anybody else "riled up" here.

Sounds like a well-thought out decision, Dawson is doing the best thing for himself.

And yes, he said all the right things (it's not the program)... but that doesn't mean it's that simple. Not unlike a guy who loses his enthusiasm for his work/job... it's often the atmosphere around the job that's behind it.

So you DO think that it's something to do with the football program?
