Dantonio v. Ferentz: Similar but Different

Congratulations to the Hawks on a complete team victory yesterday. The emotion and focus every player had was obvious and it translated into execution at a very high level. I think there is a difference between the two head coaches and it is why I think Ferentz stands out with class. I have noticed that Dantonio never ever gives any credit to the other team after a loss. It is always that MSU could have done this or that. Of course, every time a team could always improve. Even some Hawk fans are able to see the errors exposed in the Hawkeye play yesterday. But just once it would be refreshing for Dantonio to say, "Good job" to the other team. He does not.

Compare that to Ferentz who is gracious in a loss (like last week) even though he may be totally ****** or upset inside. He handles adversity with total class and he handles winning even more graciously.

Both coaches are loved by their players. Dantonio does not let division develop in his squad and neither does Ferentz. Neither berate their players on the sidelines or call them out in public like some other coaches do in the conference. Dantonio, however, just comes across as an angry guy in a loss and self-absorbed when experiencing success.

It takes some time to understand what true class really is because it only demonstrates itself in a quiet way over a long period of time. Ferentz runs a class program all the way. It is a total reflection of him. I am so proud to have him managing our football program. I hope he will do it for a long time in the future.
