Dailey

It sounds like after talking to the coaches he is the one who made the decision to play and forgoe a potential redshirt. Selfishly, I kind of would have liked to see him redshirt, but I do think he's going to be a very good player for us down the road. It's just hard to get this many guys into the games, and we haven't even seen Jones yet. What do you guys think?

Agree that getting minutes for all these guys is going to be tough. Dailey played today and looked pretty good hitting a couple of 3's and making a nice steal. I like his feel for the game. I fear he may transfer out due to PT issues... there's something about him that I sense he wants to play and play soon.

If he plays the 2 guard you have Jok, Ellengson, Moss and him. If he plays point you have Williams and JBo. If he tries to play some 3 you have Baer & Wagner and maybe Jok sometimes. That's a lot of players and not a lot of options.

I thought the same thing, but then thought, we don't lose many guys next year, so it's basically the same guys he's trying to beat out for playing time. Any time he'll get this year will help him. Having said that, I totally agree with you.

I am guessing one of Moss, Dailey, or Ellingson transfers at the end of the season? Do I have a reason? No not really, I just feel like the position in a log jam, and whoever plays the least out of that bunch will probably seek another option. However, you never know because Dailey is only a freshman. I hope all 3 stick around

There will be minutes to be split up following Pete's departure at the end of the season. You can easily split time between those 3 at the 2/3 spots. I would say that Iowa will be dangling around 55 Minutes per game of playing time at those 3 (with Baer getting 25 MPG at the wing position).

That is more than enough minutes I think to make it worth coming back to compete for. No RS needed as would be required if they transfer. This doesn't mean someone won't transfer, just saying there is enough there I think to keep those kids around.

Paradigm shift...

Iowa might have some bigs who have some post moves...Pemsl...Kreiner...Cook

Iowa might have some extra outside shooter options...at guard...Ell...Daily et. al.

Not much talk about the "big holes" left by MG and Woody...so far...which, nothing against them...is a good thing..

Big addition would be...a player who can take the ball when the shot clock is running out...get a shot off, make something happen, break down the defense...without doing crazy things...useless things...

Iowa is a little weak on experience and rebounding. I can see why Fran talked up Krieners rebounding ability.

I think this is a win-win for both sides. If Dailey plays well or improves as the year goes on and earns his minutes, then it's good for the team and gives him experience going into next season. He can develop the same whether he is red-shirting or if he's the 12th man on the bench.

If he realizes that he is going to be stuck at the end of the bench the next couple of years, or feels he may not be a Big 10 level player, at least he has some game tape to show his next school. By still having his red shirt year, he can transfer, use his red-shirt year, and still have 3 years of eligibility left without having to go the juco route. And then it would free up another scholarship for next season for either Fran's son or another good recruit that the staff could obtain.

JMO, but I think some people are worried that we might lose Dailey, Moss or both because they are just a little behind Brady at this point. Both of those guys potential far exceeds Brady's.

My hope is that one of them surpasses Brady by the end of the year, and both guys stay around. One positive note is that Dailey can find minutes at the 1-3 potentially and Moss can also play both the 2-3.
