Per espn, Syracuse and Pitt apply for entrance into ACC
You must have been at the game today. It was a pretty big part of the broadcast. They said as many as 10 teams contacted the ACC.
Yep.
This is actually good for the B1G I believe. It takes two potential partners off the board who really wouldn't have helped much.
Will be interesting to see what happens with Rutgers. I am not a big fan of them joining the B1G.
I don't see Texas coming alone. They like to play too many games in that state. ND works, but Texas would give up a huge advantage.
This is an interesting development. I wonder what the Big 10 does...wait for ND and Texas? If Pitt and Syracuse join the ACC, that will make a true east coast league and the ACC will have most if not all of the east coast markets. That would make it difficult for the Big 10 to get into the east coast market. If so where does the Big go?
Even if/when the Big 12 breaks up and the leftovers decide to join the Big East, without Texas or Oklahoma, a west division is not very attractive and will have few tv markets. That to me, would indicate that it would only be a matter of time (and a short time at that) before the new Big East falls apart. Will the new Big East be able to command top TV dollars with the teams that the Big East is left with...no big name teams whatsoever.
Obviously the Big 10 is a natural fit for ND...that is one eventual team that will probably join. Just adding Notre Dame would increase the tv market for the big 10 incredibly. I think if Texas joins any conference it will be the Big 10 because of the academics side and the potential massive TV market they would add to an already massive market. Missouri is another natural fit and they would bring the Kansas City/Missouri market. Not the biggest market but a market that would expand and fit in naturally with the Big 10.
It will be interesting to see what happens. Pitt and Syracuse baling from the Big East and joining the ACC could start the dominoes falling again?
