Cub's Wells/Cashner to DL

CRAP. They both pitched really well in their starts. Both don't sound to serious, but that is 40% of your rotation. Out 2 weeks, going to miss about 3 starts each. Casey Coleman and perhaps James Russel, or Samardzija (OH NO). Not sure who. Hopefully a few days off so they can limit those starts.

No, they're not. The Cubs have every Thursday this month off, so the Cubs could theoretically get by with a 4-man rotation until one of them gets back. Hopefully it's nothing serious, and thankfully everyone else in the division is having injury problems as well.

Thanks for that info. I hadn't looke dup their off days yet. That is good news. I think Coleman can help hold them over for now. They still might give Russel a start spot just to rest everyone else an extra day. Just a small possibility.

The amount of off days they get in April has always bothered me; it'd be nice to have a couple of those in August and September. Hell, last Thursday was an "official" off day for the Cubs even though they hadn't played a game yet.

White Sox lost Adam Dunn for at least a week with an emergency appendectomy last nite...bad day for Chicago baseball.

Good news? Its early!

Serious question - would you rather they play it safe with them in April, or not do anything and let them pitch through it until July, when it is discovered they need surgery and will be out for most of the first half of 2012.

I know which one I'd pick.

the cubs have some off days but they occur after 6 straight games so they dont help that much

Not too bad.

I don't believe it is a retroactive placement. Carrie Muskat of MLB.com is saying both Wells and Cashner will not be picking up a ball for 2 weeks, and will be evaluated again before being cleared to throw.

If anything, Q should stretch out Russell for a game. If Russell can give you 4 innings, and then Samardjzia 2 (god help us), then realistically Q would be able to utilize his bullpen as normal with Mateo, Grabow, Marshall, Wood, and Marmol available. It would offer him the flexibility of having 2 lefties in the 'pen should a LOOGY situation arise.

It's a shame. Oh well. Let's see if someone can step up. I would rather get Wells and Cashner back healthy.

In addition, I still would not want Silva on the team! :)

Exactly. The cubs can survive a few games without these guys but you want them back at full strength

Agreed. I would rather bring this guy back to fill in.

5 in the 1st for the Cubs tonight! Big Z on the mound. Let's think positive!

Ugly win, but it's a win. Cubs are actually hitting the ball really well and finally getting some clutch hits. BTW Castro is a freak and I love watching him play.

Agreed on Castro. That HR by Big Z was hit a little bit, eh? :)

Crushed. I was watching the game with my wife, who fell asleep on the couch. I think I yelled "holy crap" or something like that when he hit it, cause my wife woke up asking what happened, and was mad when I told her what caused me to wake her up.
