Creating offense next year

Is anyone else worried about next year about our lack of guys who can create their own offense? This year we have Marble who can break down a defense if he has to, but who else can? White has on a few occasions, but I wouldn't say he can create his own shot consistently. I like Gesell to start the offense and manage the team, but he can't take a defense on his own. I'm not saying we're screwed by any means next year, but I think we need a guy who can get his own shot next year. Teams can get by most possessions by moving the ball around and getting an open shot, but what about the possessions that the offense breaks down? From what I've seen on highlights, Dickerson looks like he can. I think we need a guard/SF that get's his own shot. What do you think? Am I worried about nothing? Right now I'm hoping a decommit, undiscovered JUCO, or transfer happens and we get one in the spring.

Utoff my be able to help with this a little. I think next years team will be a much better half court team. JO and PJ will very tough on teams if Fran can get them in the game togather at times. Also AW and GO at the same time wll create some mismatchs

I do think the Hawks will have a good team next year but I do tend to agree with you about not having someone who can create their own shot. I'll be curious to see if Fran can find a skilled juco. My hope though is that guys ilk PJ, Uthoff and White step up and fill that void.

If the guards can learn to make an effective post entry pass to woody or gabe, it would open the door to all kinds of offense, inside and out.

^ this!

Probably your best post of the day, get off the damn hockey stuff! :D

I've been saying it for awhile now, I'd like to see Fran run a 4 out 1 in offense with Woody or White and run some post iso plays to allow them space to work their defender in the post. This would allow them to kick the ball out to an open perimeter shooter (JO,PJ) for a 3 if a double team comes. Then you would have guys like MG and JU that could beat you off the dribble and also knock down the jumper. This would be when the team isn't scoring in transition of course. I may be of the minority but I don't like the idea of having Woody and Gabe in the game at the same time unless one of them can develop a solid mid range game. If Woody does than that rotation may work with allowing Woody to either take a mid range shot or pass it down to Gabe and vice-versa. The 4 out 1 in probably won't happen this year but I'd like to see it run a couple of possessions a game just to help get the big guys some touches in a position they can actually score instead of only off of putbacks or open cuts to the hoop. Not to mention it could help during scoring droughts to give the defense something new to defend.

Gesell will make a major jump in points next yr. Uthoff will also jump up his offensive production. I expect white to be more consistent. And more offense on the inside. I could see us be better offensively next yr.
