Covert recruiting

At this point I have to believe there are a couple of kids that haven't been on the radar that are in tow. Looking at the Rivals "interest" list, there are 11 kids that show up; roughly half have been mentioned prominently on here, the others must be on the low side of the interest meter.

Not sure how much of this is grounded in reality or wild optimism, but I can't imagine that McCaffrey is just sitting back with fingers crossed hoping for good news this week. I have heard him mention in passing that at Siena he had to recruit in stealth mode to sneak a kid or two past other programs that might come in late.

Out of the names mentioned in recent weeks, I think we get Hubbard or Glover and the two remaining spots will go to guys we haven't heard of that might end up not getting that "better" when the dust settles. By now I am sure the staff knows who is in and who is out and this is the time when handshakes and silent commitments replace social media announcements (hopefully).

Or next week comes and goes, spots remain open and Fran looks for a Cartwright-like late signing, and possibly banks a slot or two.

That would be scary because it would look very Lick-Like. But it could be resolved if he was able to fill in the spots in November with an impressive pull.

I have been posting the same thought for months. I can assure you that Fran has his bases covered and he is not scrambling for anyone. We will have three solid additions to the team. The names we hear on this board are popular but this isn't a populatity contest. We will get very solid players. Thanks for posting your thoughts!!

Recruiting this time of year is really hard to follow. Recruiting sites are searching for anything to put out as material to hungry fanbases. They seem to put connections of any kind to a player whenever they can.

I agree with this I think there has to be a big man in the fold that hasn't came out yet. We as a group keep hearing new names at the G spot , but no new names for a big guy. I think all we be good just wish we knew more.

I'm hoping for a gift from God. Maybe an Achiuwa. Would be perfect. Throw in a Hubbard and Glover and this would be a whole NEW team.

I remember when Fran first arrived and was recruiting he was angry when some names were leaked. It wouldn't surprise me if he has some guys in the fold that he has held close to his vest. That is my hope anyway!

That was Van Coleman. However, he is still shooting his mouth off. Nonetheless, it might be than he is feeding VC some baloney.

Van has a reputation of leaking things at the wrong time. Recruiting is a vicious business. Cutthroat doesn't begin to cover it. Fran has to keep it quiet.

One article says Hubbard 50-50 with Iowa and Nebraska, another says he liked the NE visit better. Hard to believe the NE visit beat an upset of Purdue followed by the fans rushing the court, but I think our record really hurts us when competing against teams that are perceived as being closer to making the tourney.

Apparently Olaseni is not getting an offer from OU, so if we could land Olaseni, Hubbard or Glover and a player to be named later, I would be happy with that. Heard from a few folks that a decommit or two from other programs due to coaching changes might be on the short list as well.

I can't imagine he thought the game or campus experience at Nebraska was better than Iowa, but I wonder if some of the recruits from larger cities are more impressed by the size and social opportunities of a larger city like Lincoln compared to Iowa City. Lincoln is not a major city by any means, but still quite a bit larger than Iowa City.

I've been to both and I'd pick Iowa in a heartbeat... but then I'm a little biased.

Edit: I just read that he visited Nebraska during their spring football game. I'm sure that can be very impressive, but hopefully he realizes that Nebraska basketball games won't be anything like that.

I believe Nebraska has one scholarship to give, so I guess we have a chance at whoever they don't take. Pretty sad that we might be getting the Husker's leftovers. Most of the Nebraska fans couldn't care less about their hoops program.

Lol, life must have been rough those years while their football program was down. Football in the crapper, Basketball in the crapper.....sucks to be you Nebby. Has there ever been a Nebraska basketball team ranked in the top 15 in the last 30 years? If it happened I don't remember it. This kid can't be seriously considering Nebraska over Iowa. Fran will have us back on road and running in high gear. I believe the Purdue game was a sign of things to come. What does Nebraska's future hold? If history from the past thirty years is indicative then the answer in NOTHING!

I agree with Mr. Lucky, but my sarcasm is running so high at this point that I am expecting to read a thread about our next recruit holding out for a Kirkwood visit before making a decision. Next we will be in a death match with UA-Achorage for a PG.

I do not condone kidnapping (normally) but if a few of us have to snatch a a PG and big out a high school gym and force them to sign LOI's after switching their Gatorade out with Mad Dog 20/20, I am willing to drive if we split the gas.

It is a matter of necessity, Radman.

I passed the course, I am now a Sophomore. Things are definitely looking up.....
