Countdown thread to Hawkeye Football, Sept 5, 2015

With approximately 57 days until Kickoff, I'll kick this thread off with

57 Jake Newborg, 4* offensive line freshman.........and new face of Hawkeye football.

56 Faith Ekakitie, Canada native, out of Lake Forest, IL academy, Defensive Lineman, who I hope makes A LOT OF NOISE in 2015

It seems like the college FB season is never going to get here. I can't wait to see how CJ does now that he's the full time general on the field. The one thing I'm excited about CJ is its going to be nice to see us have QB that's not afraid to take chances and throw the rock down the field. I'm not going to throw Jake under the bus but there were a lot of times we could have been more successful if Jake wasn't so conservative.

Can't wait for football to start even though I got so frustrated last year I'd half to walk away from the tv at times. It feels like an addiction where you hate what you're doing but you keep going back. Here's to Kirk and Greg Davis changing things up this year. I'm also praying we put a beatdown of epic proportions on the clowns.

I hate to wish for the summer to go by any quicker than it normally does. But at the same time I'm so excited for the upcoming football season. I'm so torn. Maybe I'll just watch last years games on the DVR to get me through.
Go Hawks!

I am supper pumped counting down the days until Iowa smashes Illinois State!

I'm right with you. Its nice to get on here and talk with some Iowa fans that isn't negative all the time. Win or lose I'll be in front of the TV every Saturday to watch our Hawks. I can't help but have a good feeling about CJ being the field general this yr. I think CJ is going to surprise some people this season. I think its cool that a TN kid is going to be leading the Hawks this yr. GO IOWA!

I am more curious than pumped up. I am wondering if KF is actually feeling the heat or not? The handling of the CJB/JR situation is an indictator, but we don't know for sure. We will know by the end of the Ill. St. game, not necessarily by the score, but by the aggression/creativity of the offense.

I'm excited to see what CJ can do. I'm sure it will have ups and downs. The young tackles will need to step up and I believe our back 7 on d will be strong. If we can get some edge pressure we might have two shut down corners.
Also hoping some rb can show a burst and someone can get the short yardage that Weismann did a good job of.

I agree. Someone in our stable of RBs is going to have to step up and take charge. If we have a bad year running the ball that could very well be a death sentence.

I'm excited, but also hedging. The first 4 games will tell us a lot. There are about 3-4 things I need to see on the field (and the sideline), along with wins of course, to make me believe better times are ahead.

4-0 with a couple 2+ touchdown victories, I'll be super pumped

3-1 with signs of improvement on offense, special teams, and game management (and only loss being Pitt, in a well played game)....ehhhh, I'll still be in wait and see mode, and still hedging.

2-2 or worse.......death toll, misery, pisssed. Not sure we even go bowling...And this place will be awful, with good reason.

1-3...I'll be playing golf on Saturdays in late Sept/Oct...and hoping for a warm early november, to play golf. I'll still watch, but won't be locked in for pre kickoff coverage, and probably won't care much.

Option 1 please.

I hate to think what happens with an 0-4 start.

I think the CJB "growing pains" will be similar to Stanzi's, i.e., some ill-advised throws into coverage, etc., but will be significantly less due to his having some experience.

Much as I defended Jake, and didn't like the way the situation was handled, this situation appears similar to the Stanzi-Christensen situation (although JR is eons better than JC). A guy who is a decent game manager, does what the staff tells him to do, learns from his mistakes, etc., but is simply not as big a weapon over-the-top/vertically as the guy replacing him. Despite the three-game losing streak in 2008, it was obvious that Stanzi was the difference going forward.

If CJB has as good a pump-fake as Stanzi, and if any of our RBs shows as a threat to "house" longer runs from scrimmage, we could be dangerous.

Or, we could wake up and remember who our OC is...

There's going to big a lot of weight on CJs shoulders this season. Hopefully we will get off to a good start and put a good season together this yr. Maybe CJ will play better without having to look over his shoulder wondering if he's going to get pulled and put on the bench.
