Could've been Hawks Thread

Ullis played 17 minutes tonight and had one of the lesser stat lines for the Wildcats tonight. Damn he would have looked good in a Hawk uni.

Willie Atwood has been starting for AZ State and has put up decent numbers comparable to Uthoff (minus the 3pters).

Ulis would have helped us a ton. I liked his game, looked in control for a freshmen and really set his teammates up nicely. We have to start locking a couple of these guys up to take that next step!

Miller stated in a podcast that he wouldn't be surprised in Ullis ended up here before his career was over. Maybe somebody knows, or JDM can explain it here.

I believe John's premise is that Ulis will be consistently recruited over at Kentucky and relegated to the end of the bench. Rather than being a role player at Kentucky, he might consider the chance to be a star at Iowa.

That's part of it, but there was more. Like someone transferring out, but then didn't. I don't remember it all.

BTW, welcome to HN, JV!

Ulis is playing 18+ minutes per game on the #1 team in the nation as a true freshman. I don't think he needs to be worried about getting recruited over.

Well he actually already has, Kentucky has the nation's #1 pg Isaiah Briscoe signed for next year.

And when/if the Harrisons go pro after this year, Ulis and Briscoe can share time at PG next year, just as Ulis and Andrew Harrison are sharing time this year. Ulis is really, really good. He's going to get consistent minutes, even at Kentucky.

Edit: I would go so far as to say that I think it's more likely that Ulis leaves Kentucky early for the NBA than that he leaves Kentucky early for another school. I think he's that good.

When is the last time a 5'9" kid went pro early?

You're right, I thought he played four years at UW but he did go pro a year early.

Just double-checked, and it does look like Nate Robinson was the last player 5'9" or shorter to leave college early and get drafted, so Ulit would definitely be a statistical anomaly if he were to do the same. However, Ulis is still just 18, so it's not unreasonable for him to grow another inch or so. If he were 5'10" or 5'11", he might be comparable to the likes of Shane Larkin, Johnny Flynn, or Ty Lawson (in terms of ceiling, not in terms of current ability).

Ulis is the only true pg on UK. He will be a 4 year player, as Cal already loves him as his QB...he said it after the game last nite. Briscoe will play, but so will Ulis....every game, every year.

Ulis would have pushed Iowa over the hump, after we lose our upperclassmen...and bring other recruits with him.

Marvin Clark, another Hawk recruit, looked full-grown last nite for MSU. Tum Nairns also looked good for MSU. Sandy Cohen looked solid for Marquette last nite...Fran knows who to recruit at least.

Ulis will be a 4 year guy at UK. He will also play a lot. I could see him being the experienced floor general throughout his career with each freshman class they bring in during his time.

That's pretty much it. I just said it was a hunch and it wasn't based on anything other than what Kentucky does each year.

He already has been recruited over for next year. Its a lot easier to look good when your surrounded by a lot of talent. Ulis is a good player, but I doubt he is NBA material. If he was another six inches taller he probably would be. He can shoot pretty good.
