Could this be the best/worse Iowa team ever?

Or does that distinction still lie with the 97 team? Probably best answered at the end of the year, but still a good deal of talent in relation to a 5-2 record.

Certainly not as good as we thought on defense. I never imagined we would be this bad on special teams.

Teams can't be judged until you are able to see the final product however sitting in the middle of this shitstorm one could deduce that this team is a disappointment compared to preseason hype.

The 97 team had very big expectations, and was a senior-dominated team. Even with Tim Dwight, poor kicking hurt the Hawks in NW and Wisc losses that season.

2010 currently feels like the 1997 season to this point, but we'll see what plays out.

I know what I'm about to say has been discussed before, but I'm going to bring it up again. Iowa's Defense is missing Norm in a big, big way. People can say what they want, that he is involved. I'm just not seeing anything different. Atleast when Norm was involved in ALL ASPECTS of the Defense you would see slight changes that may not be visible to us. Since the 2 half of the Michigan game this Iowa D has struggled big time IMO.

That said Iowa is not playing smart ball right now and it's unfortunate because this is a very good football team.

This year's team is better than the 1997 team. This year's offense is better than the 1997 offense.

Stanzi is having a once in a generation season. Sherman was not that. DJK is a better receiver than Dwight.

hayden - when i read the title, I was going to respond with the '97 team, but you already set that stage. this is a question only answered at the end of the year.

With this said our offense may be having the best season ever but the team as a whole is not. We're nowhere near best TEAM ever.

DJK is most likely the better receiver. Dwight certainly could do everything else. Stanzi over Sherman definitely. I would take Banks over ARob, although I love ARob's toughness. Put Stanzi on the 97 team and they are in business.

The let down feels a lot like 97 though so far. I remember Hayden feeling so good about the 97 team being a NT contender. Had a lot of quick strike ability. Maybe even more than the 2010 version offense. But, I think we count more on the 2010 offense to score when it needs to (except at the end of the game I suppose---just like 97 to this point).

'97 is a good comparison, but so is 2005. I swear that team was ranked top 10 in several preseason polls and then they went out there and got destroyed at ISU and OSU and then lost close ones to NU and Michigan and then there was that bowl game. The problem with that team was we turned the whole d-line over.
