Cordell Pemsl

Iowa has offered on Dubuque star Cordell Pemsl. His team beat the 4A State Champs IC West. This kid looks the part. He has range and good handles for being just a sophmore. He can handle multiple positions. Even a little point forward.

The potential is huge. He is projected to grow up to 6'10". If he can improve on his ball handling skills & pickup a quicker release then the sky is the limit! Not sure on his defense, but he has time for improvement...

He will need a much quicker release at the next level, but hey, he is just a soph! Good ball handles for his age . Love the point forward play. He visits Fran this week and the guy is a big Hawk fan. If he has the work ethic of say a Woody, then this kid will be a great one.

It sounds like it is a matter of getting his mom on board. If she likes what she sees/hears this will most likely be over sooner rather than later.

Pemsl recently said the doctors told him his growth plates are open and he has the potential to be 6’10. Regardless, he’ll be a top 150 player.

It would be nice if Iowa could get Pemsl at power forward and Cook at center for the class of 2016. Pensl is going to be a load and Cook is a 6 foot 8 and 240 pound sophomore in high school right now.

IIRC, Seth Bonifas was offered by Fran as a Sophomore. Let's hope Pemsl pans out better than him. I think he will.

huge difference between those two offers

bonifas's offer was not commitable at the time -- it was a head coach in his second year at a program reaching out to what looked like the best of a weak 2014 iowa class, with a "wait-and see" offer. it was a step in building relationships with hs coaches and keeping in contact with a project player.

pemsl will most likely be a top 100 player. this is a commitable offer from a coach trying to lock up a priority in-state recruit for a team that just came off an ncaa appearance, and is trying to build a sweet 16 or better team.

This. Pemsl's future looks pretty darn bright and he's the best player on what was the state's most dominating team (Josh Carter is really good, too, but he's not nearly as efficient as Pemsl). But Kyle Haber was clearly the best player at Senior (He's going to an Ivy League school to play; I think Brown?).

If he grows, he should be a good one. Big Ten body. Seems like the Iowa prep cupboard is pretty bare the next couple of years, so Hawks need to nail down any good ones out there.

Kid grew up a Hawk fan. Not sure you can read anything into who did or did not offer him. His high school coach and his AAU coach know that he's a Hawk fan so you can bet any D-1 coach sniffing around is going to get that information as well. If he blows up, I expect some big programs to make a run for him but that's normal.

Great get by Fran. Love how they got on him early and took advantage of him being a Hawk fan. Could pay off big time in a year or two when some other big programs start to come into the fold. He's only in 10th grade. Anyone who tries to find something to criticize about him needs to remember that. He's got a lot of time to develop his game, and his body. With someone his size it often takes a little bit for the coordination to catch up with the growth. He could be an exciting player by the time he's 20.
