Conversation with Orange Bowl Ticket Office

I purchased 2 tickets from the Orange Bowl ticket office today (this was in addition to 6 tickets we bought through the University). I asked the young man how the ticket sales were going - he said that the sales were going very well and that they anticipated a "sellout" for the game. He also said that the Iowa fans were "killing" Georgia Tech in ticket sales, and that they were very happy with the overall response from the U. of Iowa.:D

I think we will see 25,000 to 30,000 Iowa fans at the game and maybe more.

Iowa has 2,000 "unsold" as of today. The Orange Bowl people consider those tickets as sold, even if the University can't sell them, because the University guarantees that amount.

A huge number of Iowa fans bought their tickets from other sources since they did not have high ticket priority with the University ticket office as season ticket holders (this is old news).

Sounds like Iowa has 3000 tickets left.

if I'm dropping 1k on a trip to Florida I'm getting decent seats for the game which is the point of the whole trip.........that means I'm NOT buying tickets from Iowa so they can stick me in some nose bleed section when I can probably get better seats from other sources for the same price by the time the University adds on all their silly fees

Im guessing ditto x 8,000-10,000 or so. Sadly it just isn't the smart option to get your tickets through the U of I.

Yes, I agree, it does seem odd that the tickets purchased through the U are not as good as the ones you can buy directly from the Orange Bowl. I wonder if this will change in future years.

You would think that the tickets purchased through each University would be the best seats, but that does not appear to be the case.

Economic times have changed and fans are much more intelligent about how they spend their money and the quality of the tickets they get for their money.

I think this is true across the nation.

KXNO was reporting 3000

The university does get good tickets to sell. I was looking at the sections given to Iowa for the game, several lower level sections between the 20s, but you have to be a high priority season ticket holder to get those. But the university also gets a lot of the nosebleeds and that's where the majority of fans get stuck.

amen!!!!!

I actually find this quite amusing, all of the angst about where your seats are.

If you don't have the priority as a season ticket holder to get the best seats from the University allotment, then that means that you don't have the best seats in Kinnick either. So it's OK to sit in the end zone at Kinnick, but you consider that a complete bust at a bowl game?

From my perspective, the most important thing about the bowl game is simply to be there. Yes, having fantastic seats would be a huge plus, but come on....enough of the whining and just be happy if you have a ticket to get in, wherever that seat may be. There isn't a bad seat in the place actually.

When I sit in Kinnick its after only driving 15 min to get to the stadium and tailgating. if I am gonna fly and spend 1,000+ on a trip, i want a good ticket. That is just my point of view. You really can't compare the two, Kinnick most of us are driving from 15min to 2hrs away. Now we are flying and getting hotel rooms and spending upwards of 1,000 dollars. I think after spending that much, we should deserve a good ticket.

I don't get why the U of I gets such crappy tickets. You think they would have good ones for the "Big Time Donors", but our buddy (who has season tixs on the 50 yd line at kinnick) seats are actually worse, than what we got off of Ebay. He is sitting like 40 rows up on the 20yd line and we got ours off ebay and their on the 45 yd line, 25 rows up. Perfect seats, can't wait to be in Miami!

The UI doesn't choose which tickets are in their allotment, that is chosen by the bowl.

My dad has had 50 yard line seats for 40 years and we still got stuck in the endzone. I didn't think our tickets would be that bad, next time we get them on our own.

+1, I bought my tickets on Ticketmaster and chose the lowest price. I have been to enough road games and been stuck in the upper deck somewhere that it really doesn't bother me.

Just curious....are you on the GT side?

For those that have been to bowl games through the years, I think you would agree with me when I say there is no "side" to bowl games. Yes, the Hawks are on one side of the field and Georgia Tech is on the other but that's only for the players. Fans from both teams will be dispersed throughout the stadium. There will be Hawk fans mixed in with the GT fans in "their" endzone and GT fans mixed in with the Hawk fans in "our" endzone.

I donate some money and have fairly decent seats at Kinnick. My problem is I have four season tickets and four family members but I'm limited to only two bowl tickets. I think that sucks!! I have only bought tickets for a bowl game once from the univeristy and that was to the last Orange Bowl and I sat in the second row in the end zone. I'd rather sit in the nosebleed seats than sit in the endzone. So I'll probably never buy seats from the U of I again. I'm in the upper deck but on the 50 for this game. In my opinion, those are far better seats to ANYTHING in the endzone.
