Containg Persa.

What will we do to Persa after playing D-Robinson? Not saying we absolutely throttled D-Rob. But, does everyone think our D-line will play their best game yet, and contain him with all sorts of disruptions and pressure, courtesy of Clayborn, Daniels, Morris, etc....?????? It's either gonna be the the picturesque IA-NW game as of late, or we're gonna show them what this D has learned. Gotta believe Norm is up to something, granted it's whatever his conditon allows, but I think he's seen enough.....

While Persa is mobile and will probably move the chains a couple times, I don't see containing him as the top focus. I think the DL and LB's will be fine against his legs. I am very concerned with what Persa's accuracy and patience will do against the Hawks back 7.

NW isn't that much of a deep threat, with only Ebert avg > than 15 ypc. Iowa needs to tighten up the underneath and flats and even cheat the safeties up. With Tarp & Hunter back, I could see more 3-4 alignment with maybe Morris as a spy. I'd like to see some baiting done by the defense to actually force Persa into more runs and give him some shots (he's only a couple weeks removed from a concussion) and / or force him into some longer than usual deep plays where the safeties can make the play.

My #1 concern is the offense getting back to it's disciplined productivity and scoring TD's. Zero red-zone TD's won't cut it this week.

Can't be done. Persa's gonna have a career day against us. My guess? 350yds passing and two TDs, 150yds rushing and one TD on the ground.

I'm hoping that's sarcasm but I can't really tell. We did a pretty good job with Denard, IIRC his longest run of the day was 12 yards. Persa isn't as fast or agile as Denard and he only has one receiver to speak of to draw attention (Ebert). It's essentially a 2-man show on offense at jNW. Outside of Persa, they don't really have a secondary rushing threat (Trumpy is averaging about 50 or so yards per game) and outside of Ebert the rest of their receivers are seriously lacking. I don't know if the DL will play a perfect game and really mess him up, but I doubt he eclipses 100 rushing yards against us. He's only done that once this year and that was against PSU.

its not that he'll rush for over a hundred yards that worry's me, he may get something close, but its the 3rd down conversions where he can scramble and move the chains, thats what will hurt us the most is if he can scramble for a 5 or 7 yard gain and keep getting first downs, its just like dinking and dunking down the field and it tires out the D.

We will blitz 2 times during the game...we will run a 4-3 cover 2, with some 3-4 cover 2 sprinkled in at times. Just like we do for every team we play. ;)

I agree that he won't run for 100 on us. I see him scrambling on crucial downs for them. I really think we can put him on his back multiple times. It's another "revenge" game. Hopefully the team is as pumped as they were for the Michigan State game. Surely they'll have a better practice this week too.

Guys, don't sweat it. O'Keefe is cooking up a devious game plan right now. Teams like Indiana and Northwestern have proven that they cannot stop O'Keefe's offense. I am fully expecting the D to follow its standard MO and do everything in its power to lose this game, but O'Keefe will win this game. The last time we played in Evanston back in '07 (granted that was with Jake at the helm) O'Keefe drew up some deep strikes from Jake to Trey Stross and the 'Cats were helpless. That was also a game where Clayborn and Binns got a lot of PT at DE and the defense actually looked good against NU. I expect the Hawks to put up at least 40 against NU unless O'Keefe lets off the gas in the second half with the game in the bag. A two possession lead should be enough for O'Keefe to change the playbook to the 3 and out sit on the lead playbook because NU has never come back against a Ferentz coached team when we get them down two possessions.

Was more of a "do you think we'll handle Persa easily?" type of question. Not so much a "are we gonna play the same D we always do?" lol... You're more than right though... ;) I want to see 3+ people with sacks.

Persa has developed to the point where he looks to throw first. He'll scramble when the situation calls for it, and he's a threat when he does that, but it won't be like last year where he hadn't developed as a passer yet and had to rely on his feet. He won't go for 100 just because he's not going to take off at the first sign of trouble this year.

Ebert is a good receiver (haven't seen enough of NW this year to know that he's targeted on routes that are over 15 yards a lot or if he just makes things happen after the catch at 10-12 yards (can't find YAC numbers for the NCAA). Dunsmore is also a reliable target, particularly in the redzone.

Hey Dude,I'm no KOK basher ,but I have to wonder?
If Binns is only a Junior how could he of played in 2007.
I don't remember him red shirting in 2008 or 2009?
If he played in 2007 ,wouldn't he be a Senior now?

Just a mistake he made. I'm assuming he meant Ballard.

Sorry for my typo - I meant Ballard. Well, you guys had a 2 possession lead at the mid point of the 4th quarter. I don't know what to say, I have never seen a team lose when they had a 2 possession lead against NU, but I have seen my cats fold many big leads, like PSU last week, MSU a few weeks ago and who can forget that huge MSU comeback a few years ago?
