Consensus Poll: Iowa #7 (Bowl Slotting)

Man...that would be depressing if it played out like that. I can't stand the thought of Wisky jumping Iowa for an at-large.

I hear you, but if this were to happen as such (which is a long shot), and the Orange is faced with bringing Iowa right back, or bringing Wisconsin, they take the Badgers and their well traveling fan base, IMO. I am just gonna root hard for Boise to win em all ;)

These pre-season predictions provide comic relief during the hot, sultry days of summer but the BuckNuts folks probably would have more success predicting now what the exact temperature is going to be in the BCS cities at the time each of those games kicks off.

I think the Big 12 will do everything in their power (lobby, cut a back room deal, etc.) to make sure Nebraska does not get an at large BCS bid. No way they want a team leaving their conference in a showcase event.

I know in past years it has been a problem, but what if Iowa blows Wisconsin out of the water in mid-Oct. do you still think they jump Iowa for the Orange in this scenario just because the Hawks were there last year?

Michigan beat Iowa in 2005, the teams were both 7-4, and the Outback chose Iowa.

In reality, Wisconsin is probably a better TV draw, probably would send more to the Orange this year than Iowa would, and I think they would take the Badgers in this scenario.

So if Boise loses to Va Tech you think they still are guaranteed to finish in top 8 of BCS if they win the rest?

So if Boise is in the NC game and TCU is in the top 8, does the rose still have to take TCU with an at-large, or would Boise being in the NC game satisfy the rule?

Yeah that makes sense, I forget sometimes that its about money and exposure, over actual making sense in the win/loss/who beat who column. As long as its New Years or better I am fine with the Hawks being there.

No, the BCS is obligated to take just one. A BCS bowl COULD take TCU as they would be in the pool, but they woudnt

Yes, because they are starting so high this year. Either they or TCU would be in the Top 8 if they have just one loss, IMO

The Orange Bowl is hurting. They need as large a fan base as possible. Seems like a longshot that they would take the Hawks if there is another close team. Would kind of serve right all the Iowa fans that skipped the Orange Bowl this year.

I think the Orange Bowl would have no problems taking Iowa again. The ratings for last year's game were way up over the previous Orange Bowl. It's the ACC teams and the date of the game that are hurting the attendence. With the game being played so far away from New Years now, it's hard for a lot of people to take that much time off. Also, having lots of Iowa fans buy Fiesta bowl tickets last season didn't help the Orange Bowl turnout.

We got picked over PSU last year for the Orange Bowl, which has a huge fan base, national following, etc. Do you think they were disappointed with Iowa's turnout for the Orange bowl??? I just don't think they would pick Wisconsin over us, especially after we embarass them with a 42 to -7 beat-down in Kinnick. That's right, 42 to negative 7 (The Ferentz will find a way). Wisconsin getting picked over Iowa just isn't gonna happen, Jon............

HOWEVER, this argument is completely hypothetical and pointless, obviously, because we are going to be undefeated and we're going to win the national championship. It will be the start of an amazing run. I'm not talking repeat, three-peat, or even a four-peat, I'm talking an eight-peat run of national championships, minimum.

The only reason I can only say eight-peat, is because the kids who will be coming to Iowa and playing for the 2019 national championship aren't even in high school yet, so there's a little bit of uncertainty looking ahead that far.

You mean the dumb*** Iowa fans that bought Fiesta Bowl tickets? Ignorance is not an excuse. Very slim chance the Orange takes Iowa two years running. Did we show up well? Sure, to some extent. But, the BCS committee met a couple of months ago and one key item of discussion was adjusting the bowl schedule, due to the fact that Iowa "a team with an historic fan base" did not travel as well as previous years. Seriously, there were national articles with quotes from several conference commissioners. I even posted a link here.

So, the most recent history is not great for Iowa and the Orange Bowl. Plus, bowls go by the thinking that the same fan base will not want to travel to the same bowl destination two years running, even if that thinking is sketchy at best. Also, Wisky's fan base is comparable to Iowa.

All of this being said, what often goes unmentioned is that the bowls often talk to each other. The BCS is a joint entity. They want to make sure there is interest in all their games. Accordingly, I would predict that the BCS would make a deal so that Nebby went to South Florida and Iowa went to the Big Easy. Nebby would fill that big stadium down there and they would welcome being a part of the annual Big East beatdown, it would also help bolster the annual poor ratings for that game.

The Sugar Bowl is really about the SEC. That league is going to take care of their half of the travel. They would know Iowa would take care of their half, so there would be no need to jump a team over Iowa. Plus, there is some intrigue with respect to the Iowa vs. Florida match-up of which we all know.

However, let's just hope that if this happens that Iowa fans don't jump the gun again and buy up tickets to the wrong game.

Oh yeah, and Jon you can help with this.

With all these high expectations, I just can't beat the feeling that the Hawks will fall short, and the BCS talk will all be moot.

I hope I'm wrong.

Quit being so pessimistic DD.

Talk about Maximum Suckage for the Rose Bowl...
The sad demise of this Big 10 college tradition would truly be complete in that scenario.
Not to mention, hardly anybody east of Idaho would bother to show up.
