Conference Championships < CFP

As a Hawkeye fan I was elated to find out Iowa had beat the Buckeyes. My survey of some our rival fan forums found many pleased to see the Bucks take one on the chin so to speak. When I read the national sport website headlines all anyone wanted to write about or discuss was the impact on the CFP. A Michigan State or Iowa interfering with the playoff hopes of an Ohio State or Penn State is a bad thing for the conference in their estimation. I guess other members of the conference should just lay down for the media's chosen few.

I was never a proponent of the CFP for multiple reasons. Winning a conference championship would become secondary to qualifying for the CFP and it has. Recruitment of athletes would result escalate into a facilities war. Huge salaries for coaching and recruiting players would make many millionaires but raise admission prices to attend the games. We've read the FBI stories about the seedy side of college basketball and the chase to be national champions. The conditions are in place for the same thing to happen to college football.

I'm unsure who will make the four playoff spots. I actually don't care. I want a return where winning the conference championship determines who earns a playoff spot.

The confeence championship does determine who' in the playoffs.... as long as the right teams are in the championship game

I think the B1G missing out this year is what drives them to an 8 team playoff. Too much money to leave out the Big 10.

I agree with your first paragraph.

But I don’t think the CFP is to blame for skyrocketing costs of college football. That was happening prior to the CFP.

And the conference championships are the golden ticket to get in to the CFP. If a team doesn’t win a CC, the argument is more difficult to earn entry.
