Conditioning a problem

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this in other threads, but our guys seem really out of shape compared to M. State. We were totally gassed and had a hard time even getting the ball to the rim towards the end of the game. Perhaps we need to look at the strength and conditioning program for this team. A bunch of skinny guys who get tired easily vs. strong muscular players who can run all night. That's a huge problem.

There was not energy because the game was lost...IMO. We looked fine late when making free throws in our 2 conference wins. A team can't make free throws if they don't have their legs...aren't well conditioned.

they weren't out of gas....They were broken mentally. College kids don't get tired....Gabe might be an excpetion since he is going at 120% at all times and needs some rest.

uh what. Pretty sure I got out of shape in college. Ha. I don't know if I agree completely that this is the problem bUT they're definitely is better conditioNed teams than others. We don't seem to look to run as much as last year.

Conditioning? LOL These guys are elite D1 college athletes. They work year round on their game. They ball all summer long. It's laughable that some actually think the problem in conditioning.

This may be the most pathetic thread ever. Now you sunsobeeches made me post in it. Thanks a lot.

Conditioning might be a contributing factor against a team like MSU. By that, I don't mean this team isn't very well-conditioned, or that MSU's players are in better shape. They are simply able to wear us down physically on both ends of the floor because of their size and strength. It's no different than an offense in football using a power running game to wear down an opposing defense.

It was also Michigan State, and Bilas had a real point when he talked about this being a mental health game. We've lost 9 straight to MSU, and they're the only team in the Big Ten we haven't beaten since Fran's first year. The three losses before this one had come by a total of 8 points, which is enough "close, but yet so far's" to get into the heads of a lot of athletes. Last year's stretch run was a dumpster fire, but an anomaly of sorts, IMO. Once that train got started, there just wasn't any stopping it.

There's a bit of a mental block when it comes to closing out MSU, in particular. We've won close games against Wisconsin, Ohio State, North Carolina, Maryland and Virginia in just that past few years. MSU remains that one team that we just can't seem to get one over on, no matter what.

Elite college athletes can't get tired? Please. There's a reason guys like LeBron or Steph Curry have to come out of games, and it ain't because their backups are playing better.

Agreed, but nobody on our roster is Avg. 38 min a game. Uthoff got 35 min against MSU and nobody else was over 30 min. So conditioning ain't it, mental toughness is.
