come on kirk! why is keenan In?

Fans get mad when we don't blow out bad teams, and then they get mad when we leave in the players that help us blow out bad teams.

You don't take your WRs out and leave Vandy in. This time just helps builds chemistry.

3 scores and 6 min. left, dumbbell idea as it was proven with injury. you weren't going to loose this game. second team should have been in. I have never agreed with running up scores. no need. other than that I thought it was a well played and coached game.

This is football, injuries happen.

Injuries do happen but they can't happen if you are not on the field. The starters should have been pulled mid-way through the 3rd quarter and let the 2nd / 3rd and 4th stringers get a chance to learn. We saw it at RB, why not at the other key positions?

Now Davis has either a severe ankle sprain or a broken ankle for no reason.

Ask Sean Payton what he thinks about this.

MId way through the third? come on man. We got alot of stuff to work on before Michigan, MSU and Nebraska and u cant work on that from the sideline

I don't think starters should have been pulled until the mid-4th, but what was the situation when Davis went down? Up by 3 TD's w/ ~5 minutes left? Probably safe at that point to not have any #1 skill players in, particularly if you're thin at a position. I think we're ok at WR, and hopefully Davis won't be needed next wk. I would have definitely had Wienke in getting reps at QB. I think he should get every available reasonable rep possible at this point.

It has been interesting seeing how the Captain can't seem to find the "happy-medium" w/ substantial leads, subbing players and staying aggressive enough on O to put an opponent away.

He can't find it because it doesn't exist. Every decision carries some risk. Having a WR on the field, as long as you're not needlessly sending him across the middle, is a pretty low-risk decision.

I agree that it was a fairly low risk decision, but I generally disagree w/ your point and think a "happy-medium" clearly exists, specifically w/ today's situation. When you're up by 3 TD's w/ ~5 minutes left, generally handing the ball off to your back-up RB's, your #1 WRs should not be out there. What is the point of having them on the field? To practice their run blocking? (That's sarcasm, BTW.) I also think Weinke should have definitely been taking those snaps. How many game snaps has he taken, and he's our fairly new #2?

This isn't something that I think is super egregious, and obviously this is one of those 20/20 hindsight things, ala Robinson v. MSU last season, but Davis shouldn't have been out there in that situation. There's nothing to gain from him being out there at that point in the game. If there is something for him to gain, please explain.

That particular drive started with 7:43 left and a 21-point lead. To me, at that point in the game you still need to make first downs. You can't go 3 and out and give IU back the ball, especially the way they had been moving it. Here's the play chart (I think Keenan got hurt on the Canzeri 9-yard run):

1st-10, IOWA28 7:43 J. Canzeri rushed to the left for 1 yard gain
2nd-9, IOWA24 7:33 J. Vandenberg passed to K. Davis to the right for 21 yard gain
1st-10, IOWA45 7:02 J. Canzeri rushed to the left for 15 yard gain
1st-10, IND40 6:24 J. Canzeri rushed to the left for 9 yard gain
2nd-1, IND31 6:14 Indiana committed 15 yard penalty
1st-10, IND16 5:18 J. Canzeri rushed up the middle for 1 yard gain
2nd-9, IND15 5:04 D. Johnson rushed up the middle for 9 yard gain
1st-6, IND6 4:48 D. Johnson rushed up the middle for 5 yard gain
2nd-1, IND1 4:02 J. Vandenberg passed to B. Herman to the right for 1 yard touchdown. M. Meyer made PAT

I would argue that Keenan was essential; without that catch and his blocking on the running plays, we risk giving the ball back to IU with 7:00 left. I'm sure we still win the game, but that creates a situation where we might have to field an onside kick, etc. You could argue that pulling the starters is a riskier decision than leaving them on the field, especially when they are at a position (WR) that doesn't usually draw a lot of contact.

I'd have taken Davis out after the 21-yard catch. At that point if you just run it into the line 3 straight plays and go nowhere, you're down to 5 minutes remaining w/ a 21 point lead. The way IU's offense was moving in the 2nd half, it was a safe point to take your skill players and most valuable OL out. Your argument re needing Davis' blocking is a joke, plain and simple. They could have stuck any player on the roster out there to basically get in the way for a few more plays. Bottom line is Davis shouldn't have been in the game w/ that lead w/ that little time left. They took an unnecessary, low-level risk, and a player got nicked. They should be fine w/o him, but it was still an unnecessary risk at that point in the game.

Davis shouldn't have been in there along with many other players. I agree with the OP. Don't say to me can't we enjoy the win? I enjoy all wins but when game is in doubt don't put key players in jeopardy, this is another thing this staff does more than they should.

GREAT, GREAT WIN today but we still make choices that make me shake my head.
