Colvin

I read elsewhere that he's eliminated Iowa. I believe he's looking at ASU, West Virginia, and Miami.

No. Payne isn't in his league.

Payne freshman year- 8.7 points per game 3.0 rebounds 3.8 assists

Colvin freshman year-3.0 points per game 1.1 rebounds 1.9 assists

Payne shooting- 37% from the field - 3pointers 32% -- 64% free throws

Colvin shooting- 28% from the field - 3 pointers 19% -- 52% free throws.

You are correct they are NOT in the same league.

You understand why Payne looks so much better on paper right?

Transfer U had the opportunity to keep Colvin but Hoiberg decided he was not worth the risk. If White, Allen and Lucious are worth the risk but Colvin isn't that should tell you something.

Colvin is waaaaay more talented than Payne is. His numbers are poor b/c he didn't get a lot of PT. He didn't like to play the type of ball that Mac wanted and had a bit of an attitude problem.

Maybe this stat has something to do with why those stats are so one sided:

Payne: 33.2 minutes played a game
Colvin: 9.7 minutes played a game

You left out the most important stat.. MINUTES PER GAME! Heck even add games played. If I remember correctly, Colvin had to sit out 5 or so games.

For a fair assessment, multiple Colvin's numbers by 3(Payne played 3 times as many mins) and there's your comparable stats.

Colvin - 9 ppg, 3.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists.

There was no other PG for Payne to compete for playing time against. Colvin had a borderline NBA talent of Diante Garrett ahead of him.

You are correct that Payne had the large advantage in minutes skewing the per game stats. However you should look at how poorly Colvin shot last year. He was 19% from 3, 30% from 2 and 52% from the free throw line. He also had a ridiculously high turnover rate. His offensive rating was about as bad as you can get. He was truly awful offensively.
