Colorado - Nebraska Settle on Exit Fees

"We are pleased that, with this issue behind us, the Big 12 is poised to begin the transition to its exciting future as a 10-member Conference beginning in July," Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe said in a statement."

Curious statement by Beebe... The Big 12 just lost the NE and CO markets and he is happy to be going to a 10 member conference...but then what else is he going to say. I hope ISU didn't spend all that money before they got it.

Oh, what will the Big 12 do without the Nebraska market! The horror! The horror!

;)

I have repeatedly stated that Nebraska was a net drag on TV revenue through the 00s. That may change this year as they appear to actually be pretty good. Nobody in Colorado cares about CU athletics, but that Denver market is a bummer.

It remains to be seen but if the newly retooled Big 12 can get a better TV deal, they only have to split it 10 ways instead of 12. I am skeptical of the numbers Beebe was throwing out but there is obviously stuff going on behind the scenes. If nothing else he said by 2012, all conference games will be televised, so it will be nice as an ISU fan to enter the 21st century and be able to watch road games.

Nebraska isn't just about the Lincoln/Omaha market, they have a national following and when doing sales and marketing to potential advertisers that is a pretty big deal. The Big Ten didn't take them just for those 2 markets but their national following.

Beebe said Big 12 leaders would meet next month to discuss how the money withheld from Nebraska and Colorado would be distributed among the 10 remaining members.

I wonder how that will workout:rolleyes:

Agreed. If you really want to talk about dragging down the revenues, you look no further than ISU: small state, small fan base, no following, no history of success.

Even though Nebraska and Colorado hadn't been winning much lately, they are undeniably big losses for the Big 12, as they are the only two from the North with any sustained history of success. The others - Missouri and KState - only get 'up' for a year or two every now and then.

You mean you wonder how Texas and Oklahoma will split it up between themselves?
