Collectively people that ***** about poor play calling are among the dumbest on earth

I can't ever recall being next to someone who was remotely intelligent who bitched about the play calling. Usually it's some fat drunken slob who somehow thinks the dozens of games he's seen from his awesome north endzone seats where you can see the plays develop* make him an authority on play calling. They almost always drop the "CALL A PASS" after a one yard gain on a running play, and two plays later are screeching for a run after an incomplete pass or a sack. I really like when they ***** about the "conservative" play calls after JVB checks down to an underneath route on a 3rd and 9 despite the fact the three or four other receivers are running routes down field. My personal favorite though is when we get stuck in a 3rd and 20 type situation and we run some screen, draw, or safe underneath route cause lets face it, there ain't much in a playbook designed to get you 20, especially when the other team knows we need 20 to get the first. This last guy is totally bolivous to the game situation as well. There was one next to me in the bar on Saturday on that 3rd and 20 from the UNI 40. We ran some underneath route that ended up getting us into FG position (one that we made). He didn't see that field goal because he was too busy storming off the the bathroom (after slamming his glass on the bar) because we ran "a play that had no chance to get a first down", but that field goal put us in position to win the game.

People that beotch about officiating are up there, too.

I hate the people who ***** that they want the kicking tee back for field goals.

More than complaining about officiating or play calling, I can't stand when people have no sense of the history of the sport yet think they really know what they're talking about.

I went to the Baylor-SMU game on Sunday, and I overheard a Baylor student trying to explain SMU's death penalty to another student. The first kid spoke very authoritatively, but it was clear that he had no idea what he was talking about. He explained that it happened about 10 years ago and SMU had to quit playing football for five years.

Especially when they don't know the rules. It's the worst when it's the TV announcer that is complaining about a "bad call" that the ref actually got right, TV announcer doesn't know that because they don't know the nuance of the rule like the official does. A good example is this past week's UNLV-MN game. UNLV had a punt go straight through their returner's hand and bounce through the end zone for a touchback. The announcer was adamant that either the UNLV guy didn't touch it or it should be a safety. It was wrong, since the nuance of the rule states that a muffed punt that goes into the end zone is a touchback, but he didn't know that and didn't mind miseducating the dozens of fans that were up watching that game at 1 AM.

What about people who still think GDR is a good guy?

So Duff, you don't ever express opinions about Iowa's schemes when the game is in progress? Never say a word when obvious bad play choice is obvious?
Failing that, were there no other bar stools available Saturday?

y u mad tho?

Dude gives me a straight hookup every time I go in his store. The other day he sold me three t shirts with the Game Day Iowa logo for 12.00 each. They are regularly 24.99.

Not sure if serious? $25 for an GDI shirt? Unless you're wearing a 5X, that's waaaaay too much for a t-shirt with a store logo.

I haven't seen him in a few months, but it doesn't surprise me at all. Dude is not healthy, and had some stents in his brain which doesn't sound good.

These people frustrate me as well. I do my best to just tune them out because in most cases they wouldn't understand if someone tried to explain it to them.

I don't think it's always unwarranted. It's just that the majority of the people ******** couldn't find thier *** with both hands when it comes to football. They think it's a bad call cause it didn't work. Never mind the QB made a bad read, or someone whiffed on a block, or a defender just made a hell of a play.

There are some crews that consistently have a hard time with certain calls. like pass interference. If you watched the Iowa game you saw one in action.

What I find irritating is people who purport to being intelligent by criticising others while yielding the only tool they know how to use.

I love it when someone starts calling for the backup QB when they don't even know what the hell is going on. I remember having to turn around and tell two guys that McNutt was most certainly not coming into the game at QB since he had switched to WR. Prior to this I had to listen for a quarter and a half about how these guys knew more about Iowa football (and football in general) than anyone who ever lived.
