Cody Sokol gets first start with Arizona Rattlers

Knew he was on their roster, but he was hurt in camp and this is his first start for them. He's a local kid there, but a nice opportunity for a ever so brief former Hawkeye. Arizona is in the IFL now, they dropped out of the Arena League after last year, so same league as the Iowa Barnstormers and Cedar Rapids where McNutt is coaching. Sokol threw a pick on the first drive, but it's live streamed free on youtube if anyone wants to watch it. They are hosting Wichita Falls.
 
I wish the coaches would've given him a chance to compete. He was never even allowed to make a pass in a game situation.

IIRC Sokol/Weinke/CJB/Rudock all riding the bench while Iowa wins 4 games.

KF stubbornness and a desire not to give his critics ammunition is why none of those 4 were given a chance to save the season. (smh)

Sokol didn't get on campus until spring 2013, and CJB was redshirting. Besides, I don't think anything changes the outcome of that season. Along with the bad passing game, that season was lost when Scherff and Donnal were both injured against Penn State.
 
sokol redshirted for Iowa in 2012.
played 3rd string for Iowa in 2013
transfered and started for LT in 2014.

i like following him in the pros only to play the what if game. who should have started in 2013? Rudock, Beathard or Sokol.

so far the decision to start Rudock in 2013 seems to be the correct one, although not so clear in 2014. It will be interesting to see how Beathard does in the NFL. if Rudock can make it to 2nd string, you got to figure Beathard can do the same. Beathard just needs to stay healthy.
 
I know it sounds crazy, but I think the program has never had a more intriguing quarterback controversy in its history than the Sokol/Beathard/Ruddock battle to be the starter in 2013. Ruddock was drafted and made an NFL roster for a game, Sokol won a division title and the Heart of Dallas Bowl. Then Beathard sang some country songs at a concert with his brother.

I guess if one were to get just one question about those 3 it'd be could either of the two that left have ran the table to get 12 wins like CJ did or even improve upon it? That was JR and Sokols senior years right? So what happened last yr would be irrelevant towards any other comparisons.
