Indiana pursuing former Iowa recruit Cody Larson

Indiana’s pursuit of a big man for its 2010 class continues to roll on full steam ahead.

The latest target is 6-9, 230-pound Sioux Falls (SD) forward Cody Larson, who was released from his Letter of Intent with Iowa on April 9.

Larson, who committed to the Hawkeyes and former coach Todd Lickliter in September of 2008, met with new Iowa coach Fran McCaffery last Thursday and requested his release.

“Anytime you have a new coach, you have a whole new program,â€￾ Larson told Stu Whiney of The Argus Leader of his decision to re-open the process. “When I committed, I did it because of Coach Lickliter, and it was hard to see him leave. I just want to make sure I find what the best option is for me.â€￾

On Sunday, the final day of the April 8-11 contact period, Tom Crean, Tim Buckley and Bennie Seltzer visited Larson in South Dakota, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Larson, who has four official visits remaining, is not speaking publicly about his recruitment at this time, but is expected to take some time to work through the recruiting process before making a decision. The spring signing period begins this Wednesday and concludes on May 19.

As a senior at Roosevelt High School, Larson averaged 19.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists, but was suspended near the conclusion of the season. Details of the suspension were not made public.

Larson’s game, which is described as a mix between a three, four and a five, reportedly has similarities to Mike Miller, who came through the same AAU program, the Dakota Schoolers. Scout.com lists Larson as a four-star prospect and the No. 23 power forward in the country while Rivals.com lists Larson as a three-star.

This made me lmao. I was thinking heck ya and I so happy for it... lol

Good luck to you Larson.. Have fun where ever you land...:)

Coach Fran may have learned a few things in Sioux Falls that made this easier to swallow. Don't jump off the cliff about Larson...Iowa fans may have the last laugh yet.

This is exactly what I am talking about. Now that Cody is a decommit, he is obviously a drug dealer, low life, etc...

Cody made a mistake, he seems to have learned from it. I don't judge the character of high school kids by one mistake.

Coach Fran is still 'recruiting' Cody so I am not sure what he learned?

Excuse my ignorance, but what was the reason for him being dismissed from his hs team?

I live in NW Iowa and we get the Argus Leader and there hasn't been much hype or excitement about Larson in the paper. This includes the time before he was suspended from his team. I kind of am guessing but his character maybe rather shallow.

Guess he lit it up during the season-ending SoDak all-star game. From the video clips, though, that appeared to have about as much defense and serious hoops as the NBA dunk contest.

Not mention, he is playing in SD and something tells me there competition isnt too great, but he does have great athletic abilities.

Im pretty sure the AA kids got beat by the A kids (SD Classes). That would be like the Iowa 4A team getting beat by the Iowa 2A team. It was an all star game so who knows how to rate that.

I also happen to know a person that is involved with the Roosevelt BB Program and they told me that Cody has a bit of an attitude problem.

I wouldn't mind seeing him a Hawkeye but maybe we are better off without him. Hard to tell, we just need to trust the coach we have. I like the motto "The 3rd time is the charm". Hopefully that works for IA BB coaching as well.

It does make you wonder what kind of person he really was. I can't imagine Larson really wanting to play for Lick and NOT wanting to play for Fran. The program is and would have been in shambles, so to use that as an excuse is crazy. Maybe Lick was paying them. :)
