Coaches Poll has Ohio ranked in their Top 25, huh.........

And now THEEEEE IOWA HAWKEYES have beat them twice, already.

Perhaps the Coaches should take note of THEEEEEEEE IOWA HAWKEYES!

With the Clowns win over KU, the Hawkeye SOS is soaring.

Wow, would I love for this team to get another crack at the CyClowns.

Have a nice Sunday, my Hawkeye brethren.

Perhaps Iowa Iowa needs to stop laying eggs prior to being ranked. Iowa has another chance Tuesday to get it done.

How has Iowa been laying an egg? All of their losses are to NCAA tournament teams, and they have several quality wins. They should absolutely be on the cusp of being ranked.

Had we not blown the lead against Spart at home, we would have been ranked last week.

Who knows where we would have been ranked after this week if we were sitting alone in first place of the big 10 with a 5-0 conf record.

Iowa did lay n egg against MSU. We were on the cusp of being ranked and got blown out at home. Iowa has quality wins against at UNC and Ohio State.

The OSU is ranked 25th in the coaches poll, but that was before yesterday's loss to Iowa. They won't be ranked when the new coaches poll comes out in a day or two.

It's really the RPI ranking that still confuses me.

Iowa at 13-5 moved up to 44th after yesterday with a SOS of 30.

Oklahoma State with a record of 11-5 and SOS of 41 is ranked 32nd. When you look at how each team's done against the top 25, top 50, top 100 and their last 12 games, Iowa overall looks better the Cowboys. Yet they are 12 spots lower on the RPI.

It's a shame the committee relies so much on this ranking, but it is what it is.

Okie State has 5 wins against the top 100 RPI, including 2 against the top 50. Iowa has 3 top 100 wins, and just 1 top 50. This early in the season, that's going to make a pretty big difference in RPI.

RPI does not care who you beat or to whom you lose. This is a fallacy I see on here often.

It just cares 1) if you win or lose, 2) where you win or lose, 3) who you play (regardless of outcome), and 4) who those teams play (also regardless of outcome).

Note that the values derived in 1) and 3) & 4) are completely independent of each other.

Couple things to note:

1) the difference between RPI 44 and RPI 32 is very small at this point and one new data point makes a big impact (e.g. I think Iowa moved up from the mid 50s just by playing the Ohio St. game). Even as terrible as RPI is, it still becomes better as it's sample size increases. I expect some of these weird occurrences to go away as the season plays out.

2) Okla St. has played 3 neutral site games (3-0) and 5 road games (1-4), and those games account for 50% of their schedule. We've played 3 neutral site games (0-3) and 3 road games (3-0) which accounts for 33% of our games. Their road losses hurt less than our home losses and neutral site wins are obviously more valuable than our neutral site losses.

These two factors are probably the primary drivers of what you're seeing.

The RPI is Krrrraaaaaaaaaaap. It always has been.
I'll be checking where the Sagarin Computer has Iowa, later this week

Sagrin is already updated. Iowa is 27th. But Ohio State is 18th. Tell how this is so with the numbers below.

Ohio State is 0-2 versus top 25 and 2-5 against top 50.

Iowa is 3-4 against top 25 and 4-5 against top 50.

SOS for Ohio State is 125. For Iowa it's 34.

Id say they laid second half eggs big time against ISU, UNI and MSU.

It would be better for recruiting to be ranked.

meh.....It would be best for recruiting if we don't choke down the stretch. Call me bitter, but last year taught me not to worry about this crap until the last week or two.

Coaches' poll sucks -- always has been the joke of polls. For starters, coaches are biased toward their own conference or teams they've played or teams they recognize because it's what they know. Secondly, because they are so focused on their own team and have very little time to watch other teams, they know less about how to rank a team than most fans.

And the Hawkeyes will be ranked #25 when that poll comes out on Monday night.
