COACH OF THE YEAR FRAN 11TH

Michigan and Nebraska tossup for coach of the year. Iowa 11th just ahead of Indiana and close with Purdue.
If you included recruiting last year, expectation level and losing 4 of the last 5 at year end you could make an argument for Fran slipping to 12th.

OP,why so negative Brah? Fran has done a much better job than that. The job that Miles and Fran have done are very similar. We have a better overall body of work compared to them.. What if we had come out of the gate similar to NE? But finishing strong at the end....Gaurantee we would be sitting on the bubble just like NE. We beat them. I would argue our program was in worst shape than theirs when both coaches took over. We couldn't even get Uthoff to sniff Iowa when Lick was here. We were top 10 ranked this year and final four talk that went to everyones head on this board and now the season is a disapointment.. Give me a break. Fran got us back to the tournament in 4 years after the worst stretch of BB that Iowa has ever experienced. He has coached up Marble to POY talk in the BIG. Something that Iowa has never done. The job Fran did is worthy of COY ,but there are stronger candidates and my vote goes to the Michigan coach.

Agree

All the homers on this board (and yes for the most part I am) but I'm NOT delusional about this team. We are playing better than maybe Illinois/Purdue and NW in the conference. We couldn't beat anyone else right now. thats NOT the way you want to enter the Big 10 tournament and certainly NOT the way you want to enter the NCAA tournament. Fran has done a terrible job turning this tail spin around.

It should go to either Beilein or Miles IMO.

As for Fran, he has done a terrific job overall at Iowa, but the last month or so has not been a high point in his tenure at Iowa. Iowa is 5-7 since the win @OSU and the defense has become non-existent over the last several games. When you hear Tim Doyle say "Iowa is the most disappointing team in the Big Ten" and Jay Bilas says "I used to think Iowa was a Final Four contender, but I don't feel that way anymore", that doesn't scream Big 10 COY.

The above should not be mistaken to mean that I think Fran can't get the team back on track, but if I was to grade Fran on THIS YEAR's coaching job, I would say maybe a C overall. SO FAR. That's subject to change these last 3+ games, of course. If Iowa gets hot and makes a run in the NCAA's, my perception of Fran's coaching in 2013-14 will certainly change. Translation: Let's wait 'til the season's over and then judge.

Link or GTFO.

COY takes a team higher than what is expected, much higher, or, with a talented team, rampages through the competition.

Either criteria leave FM out.

And with that, it's a silly award as it relies a lot IMO on preseason expectations which are notoriously bogus.

Better conference record than last year with a win tonight...against a much tougher schedule

Better B1G record for the 4th consecutive year...with a win tonight

Taking team to the NCAA for the 1st time in what seems like forever

No worse than a tie for 5th with a win tonight

Every loss this season by 10 points or less

What did Matta do that's so special

This is an asinine observation...11th

This is completely logical & you sound like a rational human being - pretty sure you're on the wrong site.

MUST disagree with your last sentence. We haven't held a lead since...I can't remember. The late-game/second-half meltdown syndrome is getting old.
