Coach McCaffery on

Big Ten Network right now if interested.

Impressive. Well spoken and insightful. Confident without sounding arrogant. He commented that his players got better as the season went along - I think that is what we asked for - and it's true. And I think they'll keep on improving. Said by the end of the season Gatens was his best wing defender, something he hadn't counted on. He talked about how hard it is to win on the road in the Big Ten. He thinks Michigan will be good next year (didn't comment on Morris maybe leaving). Then he spoke about the NCAA tournament - how it doesn't necessarily identify the best team - and, borrowing from B. Donovan - if they started the tournament right after it finished, there would be 4 new teams in the Final Four - that's what makes it fun to watch.

Good show. He did very weill.

I agree. Fran is a very solid communicator. He does strike the right tone, positive but realistic. And as you said, offers good insight.
As he said, the tourny does not necessarily produce the best team, and still maintained that OSU was a better team than Ky,but the tourny is about the hot team. I also agree with him about road trips in the Big Ten...biggest crowds in the land make winning on the road even tougher.

Coach McCaffery is the man. He always says what he needs to say and says it well. This article doesn't mention McCabe, but he is another with a HUGE upside. Next season we can win 65-75% (or More) more games than this season. That is just with a little more improvement over this past season.

I am putting my chips in the corner of M&M3 - May, Marble & McCabe. If those three show significant improvement, then I am ALL in. I'm bettin the house... If they improve as much as we know they can, then we WILL nearly double our wins from this season. Bank on it...

Of the three, I am more optimistic about McCabe's and Marble's development. Mainly because their development is physical as well as skill based. For May it is about basketball skills, such as ball-handling, that at this point just don't seem to improve all that much from year to year. However, he can improve by just understanding the flow of the offense and defensive positioning more.

Fran comes across like a guy I'd want to work with...or for. He knows his stuff, and is confident and focused about what needs to be done. He's just on the right side of that line between confident and cocky.
