Coach Bio: Steve Forbes

I realize all official bios are cast in the most positive light but it's difficult to read this and not come away with any conclusion other than Steve Forbes has been a winner at just about every stop along the road. I was especially struck by this quote from his current boss:

"Most recruiters are simply that--bring in talent every year, and then go back out on the road. But Steve is different. His strengths are the relationships and levels of trust he's able to build with our student-athletes. He is a complete coach."

Bring in a Noodles style X's and O's guy, if that's not deemed a strength, and this could be a very strong hire for Iowa MBB at this point in time.

I like everything I read about this guy and I think we could do a whole lot worse. I'm guessing Barta has bigger names on his initial list, but if we end up with Forbes, I think it'll end up being a respectable hire and we'll be fine.

He has wanted his own program all along, but wanted a job that fit.
Iowa is his best fit.

I believe Forbes will drive the nail into the coffin that is Iowa Basketball. So he can kind of recruit at Tennessee under Bruce Pearl. Could he recruit those same players if Todd Lickliter were coach at Tennessee? Kids go to the program for the head coach, not for their recruiter in most cases.
