Clayborn's return = 2.5 game swing?

I think some of you are overblowing him a little bit. He is good, but it is not like he dominated every game he played in. 2.5 games is a bit much.

Heck, for all we know, now that Angerer is gone, Clayborn will be consistantly doubleteamed and will be less effective next year.

They were good to begin with.

I would think that this has a bigger effect on the Linebackers than it does the corners. Prater has proven that he can hold his own, and should get better. If Spievey comes back the sky is the limit, and you also can't forget that Iowa has two stud safeties returning to help out Bernstine if Spievey does indeed make the jump.

That could happen, but the other 3 guys on the line aren't exactly slouches either.

Either way, it should be a lot of fun to watch Iowa on defense next season, and as a someone who will be holding season tickets for the first time, I can't wait.

I haven't seen this brought up anywhere, but Clayborn might be suspended for a game or two next year. I believe his trial from January 2009's alleged assault on a cab driver (pleaded not guilty) is January 2010.

I don't know how we can get a 2.5 game swing next year. We were already going to go 12-0 so now I guess we need to add two more games to meet that swing so we can go 14-0...:D

I think him coming back is worth at least a game in my view. And I don't think teams are spending too much time choosing whether or not to double team an end based on a middle linebacker. If you can't stop the end, you don't have a chance for success.

A quick look at a few of the offenses Iowa will face next year:

Arizona: they return 8 offensive starters and all of their skill position players, incluing RB Grigsby and QB Foles, who won the job after the Iowa game. He was the tall kid that came in off the bench late, a much better thrower. (10 offensive pts vs Iowa)
Iowa State: They return nearly their entire offense, save C Reggie Stephens (3 pts)
Penn State: Lose QB Clark, could lose RB Royster and C Wisniewski (10pts)
Wisconsin: Returns nearly all of their offense (10pts)
Michigan State: Lose a lot of beef on the OL and a WR, but return QB/RB (13 pts)
Ohio State: Return nearly everyone (27 pts vs Iowa)
Michigan: Returns nearly entire offense (21 offensive points vs Iowa)
NW: Lose Kafka, WR Brewer but return the rest (10 offensive points)
Indiana: Returns nearly all skill pos players (24 pts)

If Iowa's offense can improve next year, and we will have to wait and see what Bulaga and Richardson do before we can really break that down, I don't know that there will be one game on the schedule where Iowa is an underdog.

Clayborn will not be suspended for a game. This will be settled out of court. There is a reason that the trial date was suspended for 1 year for an offense as simple as this. Nothing to this.

Iowa will be an underdog against The Ohio State University for sure. I don't care if we get Bulaga, Richardson and Spievey back, we will still be an underdog in that game. We might also be a slight underdog against Michigan and Arizona.

Why don't they just dismiss it, if there is nothing to it why waste all the time and money with legal filings?

Kirk Ferentz himself thought it was pretty much a non-issue. That's why he wasn't suspended last year. I am not worried about it.
