ESPN Top 100 kid ... The latest on sharp-shooting PG Kevin Huerter

Jim Hart keeps hearing about the shooting skills of Kevin Huerter .... Huerter, who plays high school ball at Shenendehowa, ranks No. 73 on ESPN's new Class of 2016 Top 100. Hart, the longtime coach of the Albany City Rocks, which play in the EYBL, does not dismiss Huerter's shooting skills. But the 6-foot-6 guard offers more than a sweet shooting stroke.

"I wouldn't say that's his biggest strength," Hart said. "I think his best attribute is his point guard skills, his passing and handling. He can run the show. He can set the table.

Huerter is just 16 years old. Speculation about whether he will prep for a year and then emerge in the Class of 2017 seems to be waning. He has offers from Syracuse, Notre Dame, Michigan, Iowa and other high majors. (Iowa is a player, Hart said, because the Huerter family has a friendly relationship with Coach Fran McCaffery and his son, Connor, a 2017 small forward who has committed to play for his dad.)

I love that Fran is getting after it in the recruiting front. Sure helps that his son is becoming a major prospect himself.

Hopefully Aaron White gets drafted, and then Uthoff as well. Fran would have a lot to sell if he sent a player to the NBA 3 years in a row.

Very excited to be in on this guy.. But how can he be a class of 2016 recruit or 2017? does that mean he would go to prep school for a year? Would he still have 4 years of eligibility? I am ignorant of that process so forgive me.

I've been high on Huerter since I saw this video of him from March 2015: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qmhow6lCtsw
Can't understand why some don't think he could play PG. If we got Kevin, I think Fran could be quite content to go without another PG for 2016 and stick with Huerter/Williams at the point. I'm sure he'd still have PG offers out, but the skills would be there to do without. BTW, if Huerter went to Prep School, he wouldn't lose eligibility. His 4 years would then start in 2017 instead of 2016. Prep School is an option usually taken for classroom or developmental reasons.

I love it Hawk fans, keep after 'em Fran & Co...heqd's always up looking down court, great passing and shooting stroke....He's ours baby....

Still going to be hard to beat out Michigan, NDU and Syracuse, even with the family relationship thing. Like the optimism though.

Oh Steve....my optimism is because Fran has clawed Iowa back in to the race for kids like this....the ND's, Syracuse's, and Michigan's of the world don't scare Franimal & Co., and besides being a family friend suggests we probably have a pretty good chance to be in the hunt til the bitter end...If Fran pulls this off, then you owe me a coke....;)
