CJB

Could the best QB in the West Division be sitting on the Bench in Iowa City?
And the B1G's best QB from the other division may also be sitting on the bench next season: Barrett of tOSU... It seems a few high-profile B1G HCs really don't know how to pick QBs... Have no business picking QBs.

I feel robbed not being able to watch him play this year. Such a big part of being a qb is how well you throw the ball and there is a night and day difference between the 2.

It's an absolute crime that CJ hasn't started since the Pitt game. Podalak and anyone else that knows football raves about the kid. Captain clueless just doesn't get it. Jake is definitely one of his babies. The fact that he said Jake played well yesterday says it all about KF. He doesn't even live in reality.

I'm tired of hearing about these guys being guys you would want your daughter to bring home. Why doesn't he just come right out and say that's why he plays them?

I agree, it is definitely like not getting your monies worth.

It is like buying a car with a lot of bells and whistles then you cant use a few of them.

A lot of people buying a lot of tickets , going to games but not seeing the best passer on the team.

This is mind blowing that a highly thought of head football coach would not give a substantial amount of snaps to such a good throwing QB.

We traded watching CJ sling the ball to Smith, Willis, and Powell for watching Weisman stretch left, Weisman stretch right, Rudock dump off to Bullock. Even if we ended with the same record (which seems all but impossible) I would have had a lot more fun this season.

Jesus just thinking about this after I type it makes me so mad. What defense on our schedule would have even slowed us down? We would have needed at least 4 turnovers to not score 30 plus points a game.

I know it won't happen, because KF is terminally stubborn, but CJB needs to be the starting QB from this point forward. Rudock may be smart, but his physical deficiencies were a big part of losing yesterday. He missed open receivers more than a few times (at least one or two TDs in there), and didn't even see open receivers downfield a more than a couple of times. I go to the games and really try to watch what is going on, and teams just dare Rudock to beat them deep. He can't. It's a shame because T Smith is a beast.

Iowa actually had very good offensive personnel this year with CJ, Smith, Willies, Canzeri, Powell, Duzey, Parker and Wadley and a guy in Weisman who certainly has a role as short yardage wear out the clock guy.

Give this group to a competent offensive mind and they probably lead the conference in scoring.

Hell, just letting Davis run his zone read offense with that talent would have been better.

Podolak agree with you on T Smith, he doesn't understand why and how Smith isn't more involved in this offense.

Time is not going to heal these wounds like I'd bet kfootball and others are counting on. This was a watershed failure of a season. This season stole future hope of higher success from our realities. I am not sure why I would watch Iowa Hawkeye football, next season. For what? Another 6 or 7 wins?

Not sure CJB would have fared much better in the long run. The coaching staff refuses to change the offense to match the skills of the players they use. I believe the vast majority of fans and opposing coaches know not only what play we will run but even which side of the field we will run. Our play calling is too closely linked to down, distant, and defensive alignment. When you take away the element of surprise, successful execution is extremely difficult to achieve. I will never forget the series when CJ threw a screen pass to Powell behind the LOS and the cornerback tackled Powell as the ball arrived. My guess is that after a few games we would be complaining about CJ's execution. Recall that at one time Rudock was a great qb from great program in FL. My bottom-line is that it is more of a program problem. Unless you are a lineman, Iowa is probably not a good match for talented athletes.

It is extremely rare for a qb to be anything but really good when he throws the ball as good as CJ does. Throw in his ability to run and it's even more unlikely. Then when you factor in that he doesn't even have to be really good to be the best option and it's almost impossible that Kirk made the right choice.
