CJB and Matt Sherman the only 2 7-0 QBs?

I did my best to look back throughout Iowa history and to my best knowledge CJB and Matt Sherman are the only 2 quarterbacks to start 7-0. No one has started 8-0.

Here were some of the possibilities from great Iowa teams. 1921, Audrey Devine was also the starter in 1919 and 1920. 1922 Leland Parkin was injured and missed several games late that year, and 2 of the early wins in 1923.

In 1960 the only loss was the 7th game. 1956 and 1958 also had early setbacks. Clyde Williams was 17-0-3. He started the last 3 games in 1898 went 2-0-1 that year, and did not lose a game in 99 or 00 either.

Am I missing someone? Maybe another Sherman situation with late starts one year, and early wins the next.

I'd rule out Aubrey because he was a senior in '21, and the previous years had losses. Clyde Williams is a great mention. However, in those years there was no forward passing. I know Iowa started '95 5-0. I don't remember when Sherman came on in '94. We tied Purdue that year. I'd guess it was Sherman or no one.

Matt Sherman did not start the Purdue game in 1994. He took over in the 2nd half for Mike Duprey. However he started in the last 2 games winning over Northwestern and Minnesota. Yes I did rule out Devine and Williams already. As well as the QBs in the Evy years.

I heard on a podcast that they are the only 2 qb's. CJ will be the only 8-0 starter with a win today. Busting out all those really old players reeks of Hawknick.

Iirc, stanzi first started in 08 after the Pitt game. Looking at the schedule that year it looks like Ricky started out 0-2

I read on here once that Stanzi started the ISU game. I wasn't sure if he was right though. Can anyone confirm this?

Now that he holds the first starts record he can now go for the overall record. 14 wins for Clyde Williams 1899-1900, modern era 13 for Ricky Stanzi 2008-2009. He is catching up with Brad Banks 9 2002, Drew Tate 9 2004-2005, Chuck Long 9 1984-1985, Audrey Devine 10 1920-1921

Anyone mind throwing the stats together to compare these two. CJB is clutch, but hasn't had the best stat lines in the past 3-4 weeks.

This doesn't just reek of Hawknick this is Hawknick!!!

The Matt Sherman part was easy, and well known I'll give you that. What I was trying to figure out was if there was a player that was overlooked. The hardest research was looking up the injuries to Parkin in 1922, otherwise he would have been there too.

Overlooked are you being serious? lol please!

They overlooked the 7-0 start in 1900 for teams that started 7-0. If they miss that I would not rule out them overlooking a player from way back.
