CJ Fredrick Retires From Basketball

In my mind, CJ is the one guy that shouldn't have entered the portal.

He was set to play an integral role at a position of need. I always felt he saw a window of opportunity where he could fit into the Kentucky rotation. That window closed very quickly, and he sat at the end of the bench for his year there.

And more than any other transfer he got the 'wrath of Fran' for leaving.

Or he looked Fran in his face and lied to him. I’m not sure what your daddy taught you, but if you give a man your word, you stick by it. IMO, he deserved the “wrath of Fran”.

I have some inside connections with regards to CJ.

Ironically, the person who was the original connection that led Fran to recruiting CJ ended up being the same person that essentially sabotaged the relationship later.

It all centered around CJ's lingering ankle issue. Fran was under pressure by CJ and said person to get him back onto the court even though the ankle was slow to respond to treatment. Fran and the medical staffed acquiesced to a degree, and, predictably, the injury worsened.

The person behind the scenes then began to blame Iowa's medical staff and conditioning program, which obviously didn't sit well with Fran. A rift developed, then, through "third parties," Kentucky was allowed to sell its medical and conditioning program as being far superior to Iowa's, and, that they were in need of an outside scorer...

The big mistake on the part of CJ occurred when Fran confronted him on the rumors that he was leaving, and he denied everything, only to admit it a couple of days later after being confronted again.

In fairness to CJ, he was being bombarded with all of this negative Iowa talk by certain members of his family and was put into a pretty awkward spot. That's difficult at any age, much less a 19/20 year-old. From everything I heard, I think both sides could have handled it better.

Fair

Seems like an accurate account of what happened.

I'm not sure why you don't want to name the person? It was his uncle who had played under Fran at some prior stage, maybe Notre Dame. There were plenty of pictures over CJ's time at Iowa with Fran and he bonding.
