Chris Spielman: 'More stuff coming out' at OSU

Will they run him out of town/state too?

Doubtful, IMO Spielman is actually respected by the OSU community and fan base and a great majority of their supporters agree with him.

Herbstreit doesn't exactly have the respect that Spielman does.

It may get to the point where President Gee has to cut bait with Tressel and perhaps even Gene Smith to save his own neck...or I could see all three of them gone.

Speculation here, but OSU is just waiting to see if they can convince Urban Meyer to come out of retirement. Once he says yes, Tressel is gone. This would not be good for Iowa and the rest of the BT. My vote (as if I have one), would be to let Tressel remain - damaged goods still with the program is good for Iowa.

I guess I'm not sure why this would be so bad for everyone...how could they possibly dominate this league much more than they already have for the past decade? Do you think they would start winning the conference every year? Oh wait, they already do that.

Florida wasn't exactly a slouch program before Meyer got there...other than the Zooker era, Spurrier really got that thing rolling.

OSU would be good with Meyer, but are they going to be any better than winning six freaking Big Ten titles in a row? No

Make that 5 once the NCAA strips them of all their wins last year. Yes, Urban Meyer at OSU is more dangerous than a damaged Tressel, going forward.

Loss of scholarships and illegal incentives will hurt the depth of their program the most. They will still have good 1st team players, but their depth is the reason they've been so dominate over the years in my opinion.

I believe that the vest talked to Gene Smith. He is the Teflon AD in his stints at ISU and ASU. The third time may be his undoing.

Without a LOIC charge loss of scholarships is very, very unlikely. Basically it would be a first. Without more dirt surfacing it seems the most likely scenario is vacating wins, Tressel's punishment and 3-5 years probation.

IMO the NCAA is sitting back waiting for the flow of info to stop before the LOIC is issued. If nothing damaging is added from the current information flow then you are likely right. The LOIC will be issued if anything concrete surfaces.

I think you will see all three gone before the end of December 2011. It sure looks like Gee lacked control of Smith and Smith was ignoring what was happening in the football program.

I realize that at this second, Meyer seems more dangerous than Tressel in his current state. But IMO Meyer would not do any better than what Tressel has done to this point with regards to dominating the B10...no one in Big Ten history has.

I'm not really sure how even a "damaged" Tressel is less dangerous than Meyer, unless they strip scholarships, which hurts whoever is coach.

Tressel has had an unprecedented run of domination in the Big Ten, and has owned Iowa. For whatever reason (because he looks wimpy?), many of us don't seem to give him all that much credit for being a great coach. But how could he have done any better?

The fact that his style is conservative and limits mistakes doesn't seem to help Iowa. It is as if he plays Iowa's game but with superior athletes. We've seen the results head to head.

Why do we think we'd do any worse against a new coach?

Ohio State is one of the four best football jobs in America and one of the 'easiest'...the 'easy' jobs are those that have in state recruiting assets that let you stay home.

For me, I rank it like this:

1. Texas
2. Ohio State
3. Florida (at this time, could insert FSU in the 1990's and Miami in the 80's)

I think if OSU leaves Tressel in place, that it will hurt OSU, even if they don't get scholarships yanked. Bringing in Urban Meyer will allow OSU to pick up where Tressel left them. If Tressel stays, I think they lose some players they would otherwise get. Without sounding too esoteric, the aura of "The Sweater Vest" has been permanently damage, and it will taint their program, and ultimately affect their performance. That's why I think it benefits Iowa if he remains in place, not because OSU will suddenly get better with a new coach, viz. Urban Meyer.
