Knows Iowa, almost committed to play here, has roots in the Midwest and the Chicago area.

If we go assistant, this would be as close to a home run as we could hit.

You must be watching ESPN2. When he was talking I immediately thought, he would be a nice hire..

I am not so sure. Has he really had to recruit to a circumstance like Iowa, coming from Duke? Duke goes for the blue-bloods, the top student/athlete players in America like Sheyer, and the rest of that crew. There are limited numbers of top echlon players like that.
I prefer someone that knows the Big Ten better, like Montgomery of MSU. Native of Inkster,Mich..started 4 years at MSU,academic all big ten, alltime leading assists and steals guy when he left...played pro ball, then coached in the trenches for 4 years turning around Central Michigan..and now 9 years at MSU,3 as associate head coach.
A guy like this has recruited(recruitng coordinator at MSU the last 5 years), the midwest for not only the creme of the crop guys, but tough guys like Draymon Green, and Hudson, and Roe, and Morgan, ect...from Ohio,Illinois(Shannon Brown),Minny(Alan Anderson),and Wisc(Luscious)...he knows the right people in those states, where Iowa needs to make a living. More of a self-made guy..Collins has been silver spoon the whole way.

I would rather have his Dad. Lets see how Johnny D. works out at Stanford before everyone starts falling all over themselves with regards to Duke assistants. The track record hasn't been good lately.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH CHRIS COLLINS... HE WOULD BE MY #1 GUY.. HE COULD BRING THE DUKE SYSTEM WHICH SEEMS TO WIN GAMES...

My other options are

Steve Lavin--has been on ESPN for years now gaining exposure.. i think he could bring in some solid players. only negative is he has no ties to the midwest but maybe thats what we need.

Todd Lickliter--The team showed serious improvements from game 1 until last night... #26 recruiting class coming in to blend with the current talent on the team.. i still dont see how he loses his job...

Seriously? :confused::eek:

Iowa didn't improve from game 1 to game 32 and if it wasn't for game 29 Northwestern, Game 30 Wisconsin and game 31 Minnesota. IMO Lickliter isn't in this position.

To my knowledge there has been 1 Duke assistant (prior to Johnny Dawkins) make a run at a career as a HC...Tommy Ammaker, take a look at his record...not so good

the biggest thing you fail to realize is this.. we get a new coach.. half the current team transfers and guess what.. WE ARE RIGHT WHERE WE WERE LAST YEAR... There is hope for IOWA with LICK.. some of you brain dead fans need to realize it takes time... where would this team be with Jake Kelly? forget about the rest of the guys that left.. they werent that good anyway...

so lets get a new coach.. and start all over again.. we will be losers for another 4 years and you will want that guys head too... step back and look for the positive once instead of the negative side all the time..

Lets think outside of the Box on a coach once.. maybe we need a guy that knows NOTHING about the MIDWEST or IOWA Basketball.. someone that has a FRESH IDEA and can recruit talent outside of the state from say TEXAS or FLORIDA maybe even CALIFORNIA...

did Pearl have any ties to Tennessee? did Thad Matta have any ties to OHIO STATE? sure didnt.. he played at Southern Illinois and Butler... so maybe the whole lets get a coach with iowa ties is the wrong direction to take.

of course someone is going to say that Lick doesnt have ties to Iowa... But Lick was also the National Coach of the year and he is building a program.. id would rather have guys that stay and play 4 years than get guys that come as freshman and leave before they are sophmores for the NBA...

You don't know that and how do you know that half the team didn't threatened to Transfer with Lick still being here. Reports claim some did and that is why we are sitting in limbo right now.

I'd like to hear someone make the case for why one Duke assistant should be judged on the basis of how others have done.

I'll wait.

Freddy-right, wrong, or otherwise, I find it pretty telling that in 30 years, Coach K's had very few assistants look to make their own names as head coaches and that those have not had much (see any) success.

Well the positive side and the reason why we would not be right back where we were is because we would have a completely different coach. The team is not going to fold and just not have anymore seasons, just like everything if something isn't working you can pray and hope it just fixes itself or you can do something about it...Generally human nature is to try and fix it. If the next man in doesn't work then we'll have to try and fix that to. But if you don't try to fix it you are asking for problems...

How many teams are able to get guys that leave early. Iowa will not be one of them so we don't need to worry about that. And I for one wouldn't care if a kid comes in and leaves after 1 or 2 years if we are WINNING.
