Chemistry

I already like this Iowa team better than any of the past 4 teams for these reasons:
1. This team is beginning to find some chemistry, they are not there yet, but the staff and the players are finding themselves a little more each game.
2. They are improving each game, yes they lost to Xavier tonight, but that is a good program. This team could have rolled over and lost by 30, but didn't.
3. From all indications, they play hard all the time.
4. Youth and inexperience aren't always a bad thing, turnovers were a lot better tonight.
5. The staff is great and I was thrilled to see the technical on Fran, who was the last coach that sat there and took it when there were poor calls?
6. The style of play is so much like the good days of Lute-George-Davis. Iowa will be back sooner rather than later. The one thing that is seems is that Iowa give up the 3-ball like Mr. Davis's teams...that will get on my nerves at some point.
7. Brommer and Archie appear to be viable players, Iowa needs depth and aggresivenes from them.
8. Gatens is now back, Iowa will have a proven scorer on the floor more often than not.
9. I LOVE IOWA BASKETBALL:D:D:D

Yea,it was an entertaining game ...for a loss. I did like Fran just throwing stuff at the wall, but thought he hung in the zone too long. I am sure he was trying to protect his guys from foul trouble, but they sliced that zone bad after a few times down.

I like Fran coaching with urgency.

I disagree with the Brommer comment. I think he is awful. No contribution past being one of the five required players on the floor.

I just love that he is doing different things. Switching it up. I agree about sitting in the zone a little to long. We didn't rebound very well or defend very well out of the 1-2-2 most of the time. But, I'm glad we use it for a look. It did give Xavier some problems at times.

Love him or hate him Brommer has stayed when others haven't and keep in mind he didn't play. If he wants to stay going through that then I welcome him. Brommer is a player that tries too hard when he is in and that is where he makes the mistakes. More playing time will allow the game to slow down for him. If he can give Iowa depth and a little scoring and a little rebounding and five fouls, that is more than we have gotten from him for the last two years.

Right now it's obvious that Fran is trying to figure out what he has. At some point (probably around the start of the Big10 schedule), I have to believe he will shorten the bench. A shorter bench will lead to better chemistry and fewer turnovers.

Not so sure about that, having the ability to run 10 guys on the floor is not a bad thing. I am not saying that playing time may decrease with some players, but at least he has a bench to turn too. Players have to understand their roles as well, it is a feeling-out process, but it is coming together. Stoermer (sp?) has been a pleasant surprise so far as well.

I could easily see us running 10 guys. Stoermer I think will keep a spot, as he fills the shooter role. And while he had a rough night shooting tonight, he was pretty consistent at Kirkwood in the games I saw him play. He also found ways to contribute without shooting well (2 assists, a steal and a rebound in 9 minutes). He basically fills the role that Bawinkel had the past two years, but he brings more to the table as an overall basketball player, and he isn't as streaky (or at least his cold streaks won't last as long as Bawinkel's did).
