Chappell comments on Jamie Morris

Marc Morehouse has this on his blog, 44 is just getting started on a great career:

Morris turned his second career start into a bid for Big Ten freshman of the week, with nine tackles, two pass breakups, a half tackle for loss and a QB hurry. “Their linebackers were playing great,â€￾ IU quarterback Ben Chappell said. “That mike, No. 44 [Morris], he was causing problems all day. He was switching to wherever he was dropping to the field and boundary, reading my eyes, doing a good job of that. He was playing good.â€￾

Nice quote. Great to see a true frosh being thrown into Big 10 play and performing.

Also great to see the back-story of him committing to Iowa and going to that Nike camp as an almost uknown and being awarded the D player of the camp (if I remember correctly).

Classy of Chappell for giving a defender credit. A lot of college players these days don't do that. I think that he's one heck of a QB. I hope he has a great NFL career.

I commented in our game thread how good Morris' pass drops were and how they were "Angerer-esque." He really did a good job in the pass game today...still struggled to get off blocks at time in the run game, but that will come. He's got a bright future ahead of him.

This should really get more press that its getting- the Morris is playing outstanding for a true frosh. Props to Chappell as well- he's a class act.

I agree...very classy move on Chappell's part to give credit to an opponent after what must have been a heart-breaking loss...especially when he stood in their, took a hit and delivered a perfect pass on the last play of the game.

wait.... i thought we wanted to move him to running back after robinson moves to safety and the end of the year...

Does the Big Ten have a newcomer or Freshman PYO? If so, who is in the running?

Adam Robinson should have won FOY last year but BADger lb Mike Borland won it, fellow BADger James White and Illinois QB Nate Scheelhasse are the leading candidates this year.

Agree 100%. It's hard not to like some of the Big Ten QBs this year. They all seem poised, bright and willing to give credit where it's due. It isn't easy for a 20-something year old kid to give high praise to a team that just beat him.

Was going to say the same thing. Especially with the way the game ended. I'll be rooting for him to have a great career.

PYO? You mean Player of the Year (POY)? I think they do, but no way Morris is in the running. He's only played as a starter in 2 games now and he'd be up against guys like Scheelhaase and James White at Wisconsin.

Lev'Ean (sp?) Bell of MSU is also one of the top candidates for freshman POY. But it's going to White or Scheelhasse (my pick).
