CFP changed EVERYTHING

The B1G Champs game was the biggest game In which maybe Iowa has ever competed, certainly since the '50s. It was the most important conference championship game since FL in Tebow's senior year lost to AL. It is just great for college football and more teams would make it even better. Why? Because we essentially witnessed a quarterfinal game in Saturday and it was by far the most exciting Iowa game (out of over 100 games over 19 years) I have ever seen. The players and the fans deserve to find a way to have the system expanded to 16 teams so more teams and fans can experience what we did on Saturday.

It was so incredible, that even though I have spent 20 years wanting to go to the Rose Bowl and watch Iowa play, that I have elected not to go to Pasedena because I feel it will be underwhelming compared to what we saw in Indy. That's not a knock on the Rose Bowl but more just how I feel about what we saw on Saturday. Go Hawks!

I was ok with the Rose at first but the feeling we missed our shot to take the next step keeps eating at me. It would of been a springboard to being a top 15 program.

Agree with this, the rose is a great game, but I can't shake the feeling of being letdown. We had a legitimate chance to be in a title game. This is still Iowa we are talking about. 12-0 is a once in a generation thing and big ten championship are once in a decade or more. I'm excited about the rose bowl, just having a hard time with what could have been.

Maintaining this success over the next two or three seasons, reaping those rewards in recruiting... that's what will do it. And even then, I don't know that we'll ever in my lifetime be considered among the Bama's, the Michigan's, the OSU's... But this season will go a long way toward moving us into the "greats" category.

OMG another OP stating Indy >>> Rosebowl in importance.

I feel the exact same way. I went to Indy. Great seats. Terrific atmosphere. Intense game. Fantastic bang for the buck considering what the game meant.

Game meant something. Hell, it meant everything if we were going to get into the penthouse this year.

Rosebowl is nice. Nice window dressing and a soft landing. But yeah, let's go to Cali, win one and get it out of our system once and for all. But the bang for the buck compared to Indy pales. Radically pales.

Hello nostalgic Iowa fanbase, 1982/85/91 is calling.

No doubt. Iowa 12-0 playing in a national quarterfinal. Ive been to a ton of Iowa games and the intensity/electricity in that building was something Ive never experienced. The only thing that could live up to it was a semi final game and a spot in the playoffs. Never thought Id be so disappointed in a Rose Bowl birth.

I am not disappointed so much in the berth, but in the prices this sucker is fetching.
Good grief, playoff would have been cheaper.

We win the Rose Bowl and there is a damn good chance we end up ending the season in the Top 4 of all the other poles not named CFP.

Win the Rose Bowl and we will be considered the favorite for the Big Ten Championship next year.

Win the Rose Bowl and we have a great chance to step up our recruiting for the next four years because the media will continue to talk about us throughout the off season.

Win the Rose Bowl and go 13-1.

Win the Rose Bowl and send out a great group of Seniors the right way.

Don't tell me that the Rose Bowl does not have significance.

This is the Seth I know welcome back!! I agree with the above 100%...

I had great time in Indy and with the returners we have coming back should set us up for another run at it..

I was absolutely depressed after the game, I mean, I was at games in Hayden's first year (ok, I'm old). But after a night to reflect and appreciate an actual game, I can admit that this was one of the best games I have seen in a very long time. (Anyone who doesn't appreciate defense is either a Big 12 fan or misguided) Does that make it easier? Maybe a little. But can we look forward to a great Rose Bowl (better be!). I hope we do and I will subscribe to the ancient chant of long suffering Cubs fans everywhere: Wait til next year!!

I originally felt that way (and, as a fan still do, to a certain extent), but you have to wonder, are there really 16 teams each year that have a legit chance at making a run at it? Maybe one of those on the backend can pull an upset, but once you get past the top 6 or so teams, there is usually some separation in terms of the teams ability to be competitive against the top teams. I think there was a ton of excitement and build-up leading up to this last weekend because these games determined, other than OU, who was going to play for the CFP. If 16 make it, I'm not sure there is as much excitement. Then again, it would be an entirely different set of circumstances, so maybe. I think eventually it gets expanded, but don't know about 16

YES. I understand that the Rose Bowl isn't quite the annually huge game it used to be in some ways, but this season it is just about as close as you can get, with 12-1 Iowa against 11-2 PAC-12 Champ Stanford. This game is huge for the Hawkeyes, uniquely so for us since we are coming off that loss to MSU yet are still 12-1.

Or look at it this way: unlike 75% of the teams in the CFP, we can end the season on a win. I would've loved for us to be in the CFB at 13-0, but if it can't happen, then winning the Rose Bowl is a really close 2nd. So many positives to be taken from it, perhaps better to be the Rose Bowl winner (especially if convincingly) than to get blown out perhaps by 'Bama in a semifinal game.

And yes, the losers of the semifinal game might well be ranked below the winner of the Rose Bowl, we could sneak into #3 depending on how things play out. I wouldn't underestimate the power of going out on a win, as opposed to a blow-out loss, even if the win was in the Rose Bowl and the loss was in a CFP game. Think back to 2002: great season, but going out with that loss to USC did put a damper on it somewhat.

No one can really say that the Rose Bowl is more important than the BIG title game. The BIG title game was a quarterfinal game in the playoffs and we almost won. The Rose Bowl is the best of the non-playoff bowls, however, and a Rose Bowl championship would be something Iowa hasn't done since 1959. It would also result in a final top 4 ranking, another milestone that has not been accomplished since 1960. Thus, the bowl is very important. Iowa cannot win a national championship now, but it can finish in the top 4.

The only people that can truly judge what the biggest game or season in Iowa history are those who are older who have lived through them and were old enough to be a fan over this time. I've been a fan since 76 but I'm talking more about the people who lived during the 58 national championship. For me personally I go with the 1st Rose Bowl of the Hayden Fry era. In time I'll probably recognize the BIG championship game but it was so disappointing the way we lost I'm having a hard time looking at how great we played. Time heals all wounds.
