Celtics Hire Brad Stevens of Butler

He has always had good character guys at Butler. It is going to be tough for him to adjust his style to the egos and off the court issues of guys like Raejon Rando or Aaron Hernandez.

I really want to believe that this guy thinks that Aaron Hernandez played for the Celtics.

This was said on espn. I expect them to get a big name assistant to help him get used to the nba.

Not going to lie I did not see this coming. Stevens could have had any college job he wanted, yet he took an NBA gig, i just find it interesting. I like that teams are not just recycling the same old guys through. I rather take a chance on Stevens than recycle Mike Brown for the 5th time. Who knows, maybe he is like Thibidueax, Vogel or Spoelstra a great young basketball mind that can get the players to buy into what he is selling.

Hubie Brown, Larry Brown and a bunch of other dudes to choose from to help him with the transition.

I think Brad Stevens is a GREAT college coach, but don't see him as a high % success guy in "The League"...Despite all the college accolades, I see this as a risky hire (then again, other than a handful of guys in each sport, just about every hire is risky).

Rondo will likely be dealt and he is coaching an NBA team, not an NFL team..........It has been a long time since an active NBA player has been charged with a felony.........Gilbert Arenas?????

It's not all that risky. The Celtics are in a two-year rebuild, and he could be the next great coach. He's not expected to win right away. If Stevens doesn't work out, they'll get somebody else, and Stevens will his choice of a college job. It's good for everybody.

Huge surprise to me, especially seeing how Hoiberg and Alford were available. Just don't see this one working out, but who knows?

Saw this on ESPN's ticker tonight and did a double take. I actually think this is a good starting spot for him because outside of Rondo there aren't any stars on that team. He can take over a team of a bunch of young or bench/role players who might actually listen to him. With that said you know Boston wants to tank this coming season to improve their chances in the lottery so they won't want Brad to have too much success.

Stevens is also a guy who has been employing statistical analytics and more NBA teams are going to that. Also not a bad three year stretch to rebuild while the best player on the planet gets three years closer to being done.

The celtics have a ton of draft picks the next two years, too.

Maybe Stevens didn't want to run out on the people that hired him, for another NCAA job? Jump to the NBA and cash a huge paycheck. If it works out, fine, if it doesn't, he can still have his pick of NCAA jobs. This is a NO RISK move for Stevens. IMO.
