Was saying if Wisconsin drops another and we win out, beat an unbeaten OSU in the B10 championship, they think we definitely go to the play offs.

One week at a time, take care of business boys!!

Wow.... Yeah not impossible as of today.
But that said. There's a whole lot of other teams/dominos that have to fall right too for that to be the case. Long ways to go yet

This isn't really a bold prediction. A B1G champion with one loss will always go to the playoff.

Normally I'd say yes but ND very well may take a spot which means at least 2 conference champions are out. Most likely the PAC 12 & Big 12 but a one loss Oklahoma will be very highly ranked and the committee will love them. As others have said a lot of dominos to fall but ND sticking its nose in really complicates things for the conference champions with one loss.

We would most definitely deserve to be in the playoff if that scenario played out.
We would, but I have a bad feeling that this is the year Notre Dame gets shoehorned in, even with no CCG. They also have that Michigan win that looks better and better.

Ironically, if we keep showing the tendencies that we have been showing, with the vertical passing game and generally more speed and athleticism on defense, I think a one loss Iowa team, (and that would include some more impressive wins by then) would represent better in a playoff than the 2015 team.

This is a good point. I completely forgot about ND being a factor.

Does ND still go to the playoffs if they drop at least one?

Navy
@ Nortwestern
Florida State
Syracuse
USC

I could see them at least losing one of the games left. But with being #4 now they still might make it if they finish 4-1.

It's not like they're schedule isn't challenging but I still always root for them losing.

I don't even consider that a "hot take". To me that would be a given.

That assumes:
--ND loses twice--face it, a 1-loss ND will ALWAYS get the nod over a 1-loss Iowa.
--Texas AND OU lose again. 1-loss OU or 1-loss Texas will ALWAYS get the nod over a 1-loss Iowa
--It wouldn't hurt for Clemson to lose 3 times.
--Believe it or not, we want Bama to win out, then thump the living crap out of Georgia or Florida. But it will also help if they thump the crap out of LSU
--This of course assumes WE win out. Believe it or not, I can predict, 365 days a year, that an undefeated, B1G CG-winning Iowa gets in the playoff. But speculating on 1-loss Iowa getting in "if..." is tailor-made for disappointment.

Thus, enjoy the conversation, but don't take too much from it. We haven't beaten Maryland, let alone the rest of our schedule.

Definitely better than the 2015 team if for no other reason Stanley hasn't been and hopefully will not be playing hurt.....

Still a long way to go, but definitely possible. First, we have to take Maryland out.....

I do feel better about a win at Penn State. They are far from the team they were last season with Barkley.....

I would think that's fair. A win at PSU and vs. OSU on a neutral field while not stubbing your toe to any bad team should put Iowa in consideration. Also, if ISU can end up 8-4, that would be a decent non-con win as well.

Right now we just need ISU, OSU and PSU to finish well. Wisconsin to drop one. For the Hawks to take care of business each and every week and beat an undefeated OSU in the b10 championship.
No way ND is going to top that.

If Iowa finishes 12-1, they are in despite what ND does. Pac-12 and Big 12 would be out if ND gets in. It would also be the end of the 4 game playoff system. Pac-12 and Big 12 will cry about not getting in, and SEC will gripe because they didnt get 2 teams in. Then we would and should go to an 8- team playoff with all conference champs getting an automatic bid. That would take up 5 spots. Then if ND qualifies, thats 6, then that leaves two at large spots left. If ND doesnt qualify, you still have 3 at large bids left. This leaves room for a non P5 team to get in.
