Is wrestling season here yet? Atleast this team knows how to win and not just win but dominate! Can we hire Tom Brands as an assistant coach to motivate the football team and get these guys to better themselves
 
PSU will be tough but I'm excited about the our chances this year - Brands is too involved right now preparing his team for domination but I'd love to see Gable have the chance to fire up the football team - Ferentz always looks like he's at a funeral on the sidelines just chewing his gum and writing in his notebook "buy more gum".
 
Yes can you imagine the hell that would ensue by either Brands or the legendary Gable if the Iowa wrestling team were to put in a performance like the football team. Ferentz will just go about it as usual as if nothing happened.
 
The bus should have pulled over in Tiffin and most of the players and especially the coaches (yes even NORM) should have had to run back to Iowa City, like Gable used to make his wrestlers do. the iowa coaches should have been at the front of the pack.
 
the football team really could use some fire. i generally prefer Kirk's style, but when you're playing like yesterday is when you NEED a Brands or Gable style. good coaches know how to motivate their players. and that's what we have with Brands, for sure. excited to see how the higher weights shake out this year or if someone comes out of nowhere.
 
I'll be honest with you, I'm not sure Brands is the motivator in the same way Gable was. Yes, Brands gets into it during the match, but as far as lighting a fire, does Brands get after his guys the way Gable did in practice or prior to a match? I've seen video where Gable would get in his wrestlers face and say things like "you tied because you were afraid to lose, you didn't wrestle to win", something along those lines. There seems to be a calm presence type feel with Brands during the preparation phase, and then the dogs are released during the match.

Maybe someone who goes to practice can verify if they use the same motivation techniques.
 
You cant compare anybody to Gable ok? Gable might be the best college coach of all time of any sport period. How can one compete at Gables level nowadays with 9.9 scholarships? Hats off to Tom Brands for what he has done as a coach for Iowa. In the last 4 years he has a 3rd place finish and three titles in a row. What more could u ask for? Geez

WildTurkey, maybe you don't realize it, but you're on the wrestling forum. No one complains about our coaches over here. I have no idea how you were able to comprehend that I was.
 
if a person was to ever write a book on how Iowa Wrestling has stayed a power for so long it would probably be a real short book. all it would say is, Dominate, Win, Dominate, Win! I can't wait for the first whistle of the year!!

Well were you not comparing the motivation abilities of coach Brands and Gable? yeah u were. So all im saying is dont expect any wrestling coach to match Gable because he is simply the best ever at coaching the sport.

Wow, you still don't get. I was only mentioning that I didn't think the two motivated in the same way.

Ok so what is your point? We know they dont motivate the exact same way. You know you wouldnt have mentioned this unless you were trying to call out Brands vs. Gable!
