If you look at the 3 losses this year - none of the teams we lost to were more talented than us. Wisconsin might have been "as" talented and thats a big maybe, but we were at home.
I can buy that we can't beat the Ohio states of the world year in and year out beause of the talent level but this year? There is no excuse for us to lose to Northwestern 5 out of 6 years- this is a failure of scheme, motivation and in game management plain and simple.
I have loads of respect for Kirk, and if I had a kid who played football I would trust him beyond many other coaches - but this was a bad year for our coaching staff.
continuous mismanagement of the clock. The spike at the end of the first half that cost us a down. We go into halftime with two timeouts. We get 7 pts instead of 3 then the game isn't lost at the end there.
Is Stanzi not smart enough to be trusted or is this just the "way we do it" We have never had any semblance of a hurry up offense or a no huddle. People want to say hey Kirk is an NFL guy so we dont do spreads and ect... hey guess what in the NFL they have no huddle and 2 min offenses, yet we have none.
I really dont always buy the NFL philosophy as an explanation for our inconsistencies - but against teams like northwestern you don't put up 17 pts. In college football you smash teams that are not as talented as you - you dont play close to the vest and keep them in the game. In the NFL its different because the worst team can beat the best team on any given day - but this isnt the NFL. We continuously put ourselves in positions to lose to teams that are not our caliber.
