Can Weisman keep this up?

30 or more carries a game is a very heavy workload even when it's not Big 10 teams. I'm worried he is going to get beat up and become less productive. We have a lot of backs we can use. Bring in Canzeri for some change of pace and now that the redshirt is gone really use Daniels. In the limited time I saw him he looks like the real deal. Anybody have the same concerns?

IMO no. The backups better be ready, Wiseman is a work horse and plays all out. He hasn't seen a good or IMO decent defense yet. Northern Illinois barely survived today against IDAHO 45-35.

This is why canzeri needs more touches. Bullock gets tackled too easily although he did show some toughness on one run today. Weisman needs to have a 25 carry limit or he'll be too beaten up halfway through the season.

It's science really...he's going to red zone and become more susceptible to injury over time through fatigue...it's like a pilot or a truck driver logging too many miles. It's not sustainable.

He seems to be handling it pretty good. Man he can get some tough yards he's one hell of a work horse

someone needs to bump this in game #9, or weisman's 300th carry of the season..........whichever comes first.

Well I thought Bullock had 4-5 good strong runs. Bullock is not super shifty and not strong enough to normally run over a tackler. But he seems to be getting better and accelerating hard into the hole and not dancing around as much.

We will need some fresh backs as we get into the B1G.

I also thought KF and others said Malloy had some power and potential.

Weisman will continue to get the bulk but I don't foresee 30+. We need Daniels to come along.

I agree with what everybody's saying. He seems to get a little tired toward the end of the games. It seems routine to rip out 2 or 3 fifteen or twenty yard runs when the games start but not as much in the 4th quarter. He has exceeded every expectation I have ever had for his but it must be brutal for him to do anything on Sundays.

I thought maybe they would sit the big fella down after the hawks went up by 2 scores in 4th quarter. I was wondering if they wanted to give him some rest, put some fresh quick legs out there, maybe break off a nice long run or two. They have their reasons, just don't know what they are.

Seems like the strategy is about pound and wear out the opponent and get the big runs in the 4th quarter.

He had a series of strong runs on his last possession, but that was the first bit of toughness we've seen from him this year.

Yup. I have been praying that Bullock will emerge as a legit threat in the backup or change up role, but I have not seen it. My only caution on your comment that he looked stronger in late possessions (and I certainly agree) is that we had ISU pretty worn down at that point. He just does not "explode" into the hole the way I had hoped; he doesn't seem to have the vision necessary to cut back at just the right time and his balance is not impressive. As to the Hammer...Iowa has a long history under Fry and Ferentz of high number of carries for a back. Some would argue that this is good and these young guys can take it and want as many carries as you are willing to give them...may be true.

I wonder if he will be able to go the distance with the current workload, however; it has been done (Shonn Greene).

I do think if he keeps up with the current workload, he'll probably show wear and tear as the season goes on. I think he gets less carries in situations where we can afford to do so. He needed the carries vs MizzSt and ISU because the game called for it.

As for Bullock, I'm hoping he gets back into the rhythm. He showed he was a very capable back last year.

Yeah, I forgot they rode Shonn Greene all year so I guess it's possible. I'm not sure what to think of Bullock. He showed last year that he was very capable. I still think the future for Canzeri and Bullock is in the slot and I really like what I've seen from Daniels.

It will probably come down to whether or not he can avoid suffering a sprained ankle. He had trouble with that last year. I played enough football to know that some people are simply more apt to spraining their ankles than others. Lets hope Weisman's history there is just a one time thing. The rest of his body is a tank. His thighs are huge, and it's rumored he is the second best Hawk in the weight room behind Scherff. He can take the beating there's no doubt about that.

The fact of the matter is when you get as many carries as he does you're gonna need to have some luck on your side to stay healthy.

No, he can't...he is getting lower but he still takes more hits than Greene did due to his different running style. He's not gonna make it with this workload...need to mix Daniels in this week, a lot, at home, before the start of B1G season.

They're gonna get as many wins as they can though their first six games. If that means getting Weisman 30 plus every game, so be it. They have a bye after MSU and another in Novemeber before the stretch run. They want to use Daniels more and hopefully will have that luxury at home this week against a weak defense.
