Can the Big East lose its auto bid?

Is there any circumstances under the current rules where a conference as bad as the Big East could be left out of a BCS game? I doubt the conference presidents would have wrote that into the rules, just curious.

It takes several years worth of averaged results for it to happen, iirc. It probably couldn't happen for at least 2 more years, if not 3 or more.

The only way they would is if they took away all the automatic bids, and state that you have to be in the top 12 or 16 in the BCS.

The reason I say 16 is that they can choose a team that travels well, that might just fall out of the top 12. IE.. Leave out a Utah, BYU, or another school that doesn't travel or drink. It is all about $$$...
