Can someone light a fire

. . . under KF? I saw a little more emotion out of the players but who can blame them for being flat the last few games when you head coach acts like he's got circus music going on in his head the entire game. Your leading rusher gets his head taken off and no call and you stand there like it's to be expected.

People have been saying OSU had more talent on the field today. I disagree. I think this is one of the most talented teams Iowa has had in a long time and OSU is lucky to get the win today. Pryor still doesn't impress me and other than Heyward the D wasn't spectacular.

This has to be one of the most frustrating seasons I can remember in awhile.
 


KF's style don't get up, don't get down. I have yet to see any fire from KF or this team.
 


And don't give me the "even temper is a good thing" argument either. There are times to show emotion . . . it's FOOTBALL!
 




1. KF is not an emotional type guy especially compared to our wrestling coaches.
2. He has a 10 year contract to finish out his career, why get high blood pressure from game excitement?
3. His O and D coordinators call all the plays. His role is to talk to the media and appease them.
4. No desire to move elsewhere, why take a pay cut?
 


It's amazing how when Iowa is winning, people are praising Kirk for his stoic demeanor on the sideline.. When Iowa is losing, he's not fiery enough.

If you're referring to Kirk not getting in an officials *** on the Robinson hit (which was clearly PI), perhaps you should consider that he might have been concerned about his player who was lying motionless on the ground.

And perhaps as a head coach you can be getting in an officials ear about protecting said player that is motionless. If that was my kid out there you can be sure someone would be hearing about that crappy hit. Win or lose that was an emotionless response to a possible injury-causing play.

Agreed, but at the same time, I fail to see what good lighting up the side judge is going to do. He's not going to turn to Kirk and say "you know what coach, you're right. I will throw a flag."

Once again - Kirk is praised for his sideline demeanor when the Hawks are winning. He is criticized for it when they lose. In both instances, his demeanor does not change.

It does multiple things:

1. Shows that your upset that your player may be hurt

2. Shows the officials that they seriously screwed up and need a "make up call".

3. Most importantly, shows your team that they have the right to be fired up. Young college kids feed off of that and it may have been just the thing to get us rolling down the field on emotion. Instead we get sacked and go 3 and out afterwards.

KF has about $4 million reasons to keep things just as they are.
 




I went home and lit a fire.

I've already burned all ticket stubs from this season, 2 Hawkeye stocking caps, 3 t-shirts and a foam rubber Hawks head "helmet". Threw out 20 vcr tapes of games going back to 2002 and have decided that I will not renew my season tickets next year.

The most disappointing season ... ever!

And this is after I left the stadium with just over 7 minutes left to try to cool down because I knew Iowa had just ****** away another game with 3 straight ******* incomplete pass plays. (I knew if they didn't score, Ohio State would ... and they did ... just as I predicted that they would win it in the 4th, all week. Sucks dick to be right all the ******* time.)

That reminds me of how Drew Tate was treated as well. I still have a lot of the Sunday sports sections from 2004-2006, and I remember after the ISU game in '06, Keeler talked about how Tate was "back to his old self. That is to say, an ornery ol' son of a gun." Then just weeks later after the Northwestern loss at home, it was "Drew Tate stomps. Drew Tate yells. (etc.)"

Nothing in Tate's demeanor changed. The team was simply in the top-15 for one story, and in the midst of a tailspin for the other. I'm still a big fan of Tate, I feel like he kind of got a bad rap his last two years, and unfairly so.

It is a little different when you're a coach though. You can afford to be more fiery, whereas it's playing with fire (pardon the redundancy) to have a QB who's like that. Not saying that Ferentz needs to change his demeanor, just saying that I wouldn't have any issue with it one way or the other.
