Can a coach....

...get flagged for harassing the officials? Has anyone ever seen it take place?

It always amazes me just how far football coaches can go (in comparison with basketball coaches) without being penalized when yelling at the officials. It would take far less to get issued a Technical on the basketball court, which usually ends up impacting the score of the game after the Technical free throws.

At one point in the 1st half Bill Lynch threw his headset onto the field midway through his 4 minute tirade at the refs. It reminded me of another Indiana coach who threw something onto the playing surface after being upset with the officials. (But I don't think Lynch's "gum throw" will ever be as famous as the Knight "chair throw!")

I'm just glad that we have a coach like Ferentz who keeps a professional demeanor during games.

Lest we forget, there have been games where Ferentz has let the refs have it.

But I don't recall seeing him ever throw anything before. I still can't believe Lynch didn't get flagged for it. If a player threw something (haymaker, helmet, etc) they'd get the unsportsman, a coach should too.

Yeah, I've thought that myself a few times this season.

The worst part is when it was a good call and they still go apeshit. Haven't these coached ever heard of the boy who cried wolf? If you're screaming all the time no matter what you just look like a big baby who didn't have good parents who raised you do be a decent person.

I'm glad we have Ferentz, he's been known to occasionally get riled up but it's only when there's actual questionable calls. When guys like Lynch and Stoops are going insane every play it just makes them look like a whiny little *****.

I was thinking the same thing and throughout the game seeing us with twice as many penalties.

I guess there are 2 ways to go. You can either be like Lynch or Mike Stoops and go crazy throughout the whole game and hope that gets you some calls. Or, you can be like Kirk who can go insane when there is an actual calll missed or a wrong call made. I like our (Kirk's) way which is being classy and bringing it up when it appears necessary.

Agreed. At one point Lynch had to be physically restrained by an assistant. Pathetic display. I'd be embarrased if I was a Hoser fan.

It has happened. Its an unsportsman like penalty. I think there was a game earlier this year where it was called. Just don't remember the game but finally the ref had enough and tossed the flag.
