Nah ... Byrd is a WR recruit, right?

I think that Byrd's comments probably forshadow his knowledge of the depth charts of the teams he's primarily interested in. I really wouldn't be shocked if he looks at the fact that Iowa graduates something like 4+ WRs who are significant contributers (DJK, Sandeman, Chaney, Nordman, etc) and realizes that there is a VERY good shot of seeing action as a TR FR. Given that Iowa's gameday environment stacks up well compared to most places ... I think that playing time and depth chart issues will still play a significant role in the decision making process.

Well I know he was very impressed after his Iowa visit, and if the only allure of south carolina was that they beat #1 Bama, I don't see it as enough of a draw for a kid to go there based on one game one time and not the overall experience. Besides, like you said, he would fit great in this system...Spurrier has a good pass game, but they like to spread it around more, whereas our quarterbacks will throw to whomever is open, but they have their clutch guys they like to look down first.

beaverdaleguy -

I have no idea which place he'll pick though. I think that Iowa still has a shot ... however, some folks have pointed out that an east coast guy who works for rivals (I think) seems to think that Byrd is leaning towards S. Carolina. Hopefully that is just one man's opinion. Hopefully the FACTS end up leading Byrd to become a Hawk!

Or he could be just saying that, because maybe he feels uncomfortable around an Iowa reporter knowing he's not going to pick them, so figure he'd keep them interested.

He's got to say something while he waits til the 20th to actually announce.

That's just the pessimist in me

It sounds like Arnett is close to committing to Cal after his visit...it would be a bummer to have both of these guys committ to other teams in the same week. At least they won't be attending another Big Ten school.

Sad day. I knew it was a long shot but I really wanted him to be a hawk. At least it's not MSU or MU

From the sounds of things Iowa wasn't ever a leader for Arnett but it would really suck if Armstead Williams decided not to be a Hawkeye. We are recruiting him at WR and he really likes that option...

I said it was a long shot. I think that Kendrick Roberts would be a big get. Sounds like he has McNutt's size. Agree I think Williams could be a good one too.

I've seen fufred state repeatedly that recruits don't base their decisions off ONE game. Of course whenever I've read that he is referring to a recruit's experience in Kinnick.

This is usually in a loss, and when kids take atmosphere into account a lot of the times, when your team beats a number 1 the atmosphere is going to be AWESOME. I don't think one game is the only determinant, but that's why recruits are usually brought in during big games for their official visits, to see the atmosphere in those games. It is important, though it's not the sole factor.

I've never seen a kid base his decision off the result of one game whether it be a win or a loss. Now basing his decision off the atmosphere/game enviroment, well thats a totally different situation. Sounds to me like Byrd is trying to build suspense...

Understood, but you can always spin anything using one's own bias.

I could say that Alabama is the standard bearer in college FB and Penn State lost to Iowa by the exact same score they lost to Alabama.

Now you can say, "That doesn't mean anything." But that's the point. One's own emotions determine where that person places the emphasis. Logistically South Carolina is the same distance from NJ as is Iowa. Maybe Byrd likes the south? Maybe Byrd likes KF better than Spurrier? At this point I don't think we have enough info on which visit provided him with a better experience. I can see strong arguments for both schools. But if recent history matters . . .
