Bye Wk Boredom: Iowa vs Nebraska 2010/11

There isn't anything else to talk about during the bye week and I've been pondering this lately. I'm not real familiar with the different BCS bowls and their conference affiliations so I guess I'm referring this to those of you who are.

It's obvious both Iowa and Nebraska have strong teams this year. Nebraska could still end up being undefeated and playing for the NC. Obviously, there's a sliver of a chance they could be playing Iowa in that game... However, if that doesn't happen what are some other scenarios that could put us against eachother in a prominent BCS bowl game? Let's say Alabama and Oregon end up undefeated and playing for the title. Is there any other likely scenario that could match us up with the Huskers?

I know this is all hypothetically speaking but I would love for both teams to meet in a marquee match-up before starting our rivalry with them next year.

It's certainly possible. A lot of possibilities. Besides the NC game (which is highly unlikely) The Orange Bowl is the least likely (the ACC automatically gets one of the bids I believe...and they won't be playing for a NC) followed by the Sugar Bowl who will most likely take a SEC team if possible. The best chance is the Fiesta bowl who does get the Big 12's automatic rep and does seem to want Iowa to play there.

Wow thanks for the quick response. Obviously we're on the outside looking in at a possible NC shot but you never know in college football. I'll still keep my hopes up for a chance but outside of that a Fiesta Bowl against Nebraska would be fantastic. With all of our fans in AZ plus the people who would make the trip we may be able to fill more seats than the Huskers! Plus talk about a great opportunity for the Fiesta Bowl. Outside of the NC, I can't imagine any other scenario with the Hawks involved that would garner more hype than this match-up would.

Yes - and a VERY easy one to happen. Nebraska simply loses one game during the regular season and then wins the Big 12 title game and goes to the Fiesta Bowl as the Big 12 representative. Iowa goes to Fiesta as an at large at 10-2 after going 7-1 in the Big 10.

OR

Nebraska goes undefeated but gets screwed over by the fact that their strength of schedule just took a nose-dive with Texas going in the tank and gets left out of the MNC game thus going to the Fiesta Bowl as the Big 12 representative.

If Iowa had Nebraska's schedule the Hawks would probably go 12-0 and be in the NC hunt, too.

Nebraska had better enjoy their so-so schedule because next year it gets a lot tougher.

According to some Nebraska fans, Iowa has an easy schedule and they would be 12-0 with our schedule.

See this week's Coaches poll.

Iowa has played/will play 6 ranked teams (of which one is in the top 10). Iowa also played a ranked team last week and was directly responsible for that team dropping out of the poll.

Nebraska will play 2 ranked teams (of which none are in the top 10) in their 12 game schedule.

Who has an easier schedule?

Sorry to rain on your parade, but Nebraska is not that good. They will lose 3 games, and may not make the big 12 title game. They barely beat SOUTH DAKOTA ST for pete's sake. Teams can run the ball on them, and they are turnover prone. I would love the matchup though, Iowa is the better team.
