Ditto. I have to say that the description given above is what this team really did look like a year ago. It's up to the team to prove everybody wrong.
This is absolutely bulletin board material though. If this team lacks the talent, playing with a chip on their shoulder might help make up for a little bit of that.
In the end, we need players that can make shots, pass, dribble, rebound and defend. I need alot of convicing that we have that kind of a roster.
WOW! Still 90 days til season and already throwing them under the bus. Yeah, May looked really bad last year, and of course Gatens is a no talent, and who can count on Basabe? Lets hear from all the naysayers. When does the Fire Fran assault begin?
I hope they're putting in a really big bulletin board in that new practice facility, there will be plenty to post on it before the season starts.
I think they could get a billion dollar jerry jones type megatron inside that building just looping material all day long. Although sadly I still don't think that would motivate them past 12 wins.

Wow right back at you buddy. I'm not throwing them under the bus. Dont you agree that its hard to argue with his assessment considering they went 10-22 last year and lost their best player?
I think they will be improved but lets be realistic

Yep, can't argue with Gottlieb on this. It is what Lickliter was doing to the program. Hopefully Fran can get it turned around.

We are coming off the worst (3) consecutive seasons in the history of the program. And, have, basically, the same lineup returning for the 2010-11 season.
I do not wish to fire Fran. I hope he proves me, and other like thinkers, completely wrong.
Gottlieb is pretty much spot on.
Agree with most of the comments above. In addition, Doug Gottlieb isn't on our schedule this season. If that kind of comment came from one of our upcoming opponents, it might have a bit more motivational value. As it is, Gottlieb's just saying in a little less polite way what any analyst would say about the talent on this year's team.
That's not to say the prevailing opinion won't serve to motivate these guys some, but I've always thought that a team that really needs "bulletin board material" to play their best is lacking something in the leadership and individual determination department. The best players are the best predominantly because they're driven to be the best, not because they resent someone saying they aren't the best.

IMO It can make the difference between two evenly matched teams.

Gatens is the only legit top 100 guy on the team...Gottlieb is not politically correct,but hard to argue with him. The thing is...UNI is also mid-major talent guys,and they were tough. So, we just need to emulate UNI next year til fran gets more high division 1 talent on the roster.

Gottlieb is a dick. Maybe we don't deserve the respect yet, but we have made positive changes in the coaching staff, which is going to become apparent in the kid's attitudes. We have more experience, and more talent with the freshman class than we lost in Henderson.....More depth.....yet to be seen whether we can defend the post and rebound. I'm a glass half full guy.
